Rashi Tulya Navamsha: The Hidden Technique for Detecting Difficult Marriage Karma
Most astrologers barely use Rashi Tulya Navamsha (RTN) anymore (myself included), but in my experience, it remains one of the quickest ways to detect unresolved marital karma and hidden stress patterns in relationships.
While discussing astrological combinations with fellow redditor u/yashasvi26 the topic of RTN came up. I had researched this technique extensively years ago and used it heavily in practical chart analysis. Talking about it and hence, revisiting it again reminded me how surprisingly effective it can be when used correctly.
One important observation from practice:
If 3 or more of the combinations mentioned below are present in the RTN chart AND similar afflictions repeat in both D1 and D9, then the native is usually carrying strong pending karmas connected to marriage and relationships. In such cases, proper remedial measures become important and the native should implement them to settle things with time.
HOW TO FIND THE RTN CHART:
- Note your D1 Ascendant sign.
- Find that sign in your D9 chart.
- Rotate the D9 chart from that sign. The rotated chart becomes the RTN chart.
Examples:
• Cancer Ascendant + Virgo Navamsha -> Rotate D9 from the 11th house perspective.
• Gemini Ascendant + Scorpio Navamsha -> Rotate D9 from the 8th house perspective.
KEY FACTORS FOR MARRIAGE ANALYSIS:
Bhavas:
• 7th house
• 2nd house
• 12th house
Bhavesh:
• 7th lord condition
Additional Houses:
• 2nd house → family stability
• 12th house → intimacy/bed comforts
Marriage Karakas:
• Venus
• Jupiter (for sustaining harmony)
Separative/Obstructive Planets:
• Rahu
• Ketu
• Saturn
• Mars
• Sun
RTN COMBINATIONS THAT OFTEN INDICATE MARITAL DIFFICULTIES:
• Malefics on the 1st–7th axis
• Retrograde planet in 7th house
• 7th lord placed in 6th, 8th, or 12th
• 7th lord placed in 2nd or 12th
• 7th lord retrograde
• 7th lord conjunct/aspected by Rahu
• 7th lord in dual signs
• 7th lord connected to Saturn/Ketu/Rahu through trinal influence
• Nakshatra lord of 7th lord afflicted
• Nakshatra lord of 7th lord placed in dushthanas
• Malefics occupying 2nd house
• Malefics occupying 12th house
• Sun–Venus conjunction
• Venus conjunct obstructive planets
• Venus combust/debilitated/retrograde
• Venus under papakartari yoga
• Venus in Leo under affliction
• Venus aspected by malefics
• Venus in trine with Saturn
• Venus combust in 7th
• Mercury combust in 7th
• Saturn in 5th house
**One or two combinations are not enough to predict failure or suffering.
EXAMPLE CASES:
This is the chart of a female native who got divorced consecutively in 2018 and 2019. In D1: Saturn is with Venus in the 2nd house, which is being aspected by Rahu. Sun and Venus conjunction is in the 2nd house. 7th lord Jupiter is in the 2nd house. 7th house is being aspected by Mars. There is an affliction to Libra sign. In D9: Rahu-Ketu in 1-7 axis. 7th lord Moon with Saturn in Libra and aspected by Mars. Sun and Venus conjunction in 12th house. Venus is being aspected by Saturn. In RTN: Second house has Saturn. Sun-Venus conjunction again in 4th house. 7th house is in paap-kartari.
This is a chart of a male native who got involved in extra marital affair in Rahu MD. In D1: 12th house lord Saturn is in 7th house with Mars. 7th house is being aspected by Ketu. 7th lord Mercury is being aspected by Saturn. Venus is being aspected by Saturn. In D9: 7th lord Venus is being aspected by Rahu. 7th house is being aspected by Ketu. Sun is placed in 2nd house. In RTN: Ketu is in the 7th house (Rahu-Ketu in 1-7 axis). 7th lord Mercury is being aspected by 6th lord Sun. 12th lord Saturn afflicted by a debilitated Mars.
BONUS OBSERVATION/ TIP:
RTN is not limited to marriage analysis alone.
It can also reveal the overall quality of life and how easily the native experiences fulfillment, prosperity, or struggle.
As C.S. Patel Ji mentions:
“If more planets fall in Bhagyamsha, Karakamsha, Labhamsha, or Sukhamsha of RTN (9th, 10th, 11th, 4th), the native generally leads a happier and more prosperous life.
Conversely, if more planets occupy Shashthamsha, Nidhanamsha, or Vyayamsha (6th, 8th, 12th), the native faces greater struggles and obstacles throughout life.”
Hope this helps some serious students of astrology explore RTN more deeply. Curious to know how many people here have actually tested RTN seriously in real chart analysis. Would love to hear practical observations from others who have used any other RTN technique.
