Advice on yearly cavities and numerous crowns?
I know what your first thought is: god damn that’s a lot of fillings. And you’re right ever since I was a kid I’ve had cavities yearly. For context I’m a 20yr old female and recently found out I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and POTS. I’ve done absolutely everything I can think of when it comes to dental hygiene, washing with water after drinking or eating anything, brushing with prescription fluoride toothpaste and flossing twice a day, mouth wash, tongue scraper. I am notorious for grinding my teeth in my sleep and clenching my jaw all the time. I recently bought a mouth guard for this. My problem comes with my most recent visit to a NEW dentist in February when they told me I’d need roughly 5 fillings and then a crown. When I went in to get the work done I was told by a different dentist that she felt i actually needed 3 crowns instead of just 1. I was numbed and then sat there waiting for 4 hours until I asked how much longer it would be and they said she still had two other patients in front of me. I said screw it I’ll just reschedule. But of course I ended up with a lot of health complications over the next few months and now here we are in may and I notice some of my bottom teeth are a little sensitive after flossing. My insurance doesn’t cover more than 1 x-ray a year and I was wondering if anyone here could tell me if the current work I need done could wait till next year when my insurance covers the x-rays and dental work again (I’m really hesitant to go back to the previous dentist). I was also wondering if anyone has dealt with EDS and could tell me some tips on how to manage enamel decay and future tooth decay under my fillings/ more crowns/ root canals or implants I will likely need as I grow older.
