Kindle 8th gen (5.16.2.1.1), WinterBreak 2 finishes but nothing happens, ;kpm does nothing. What am I missing?
Hi all, I'm trying to jailbreak an old Kindle 8th generation (firmware 5.16.2.1.1, Italian UI) and I'm stuck. I followed the KindleModding.org wizard, which recommended WinterBreak 2.
What I did:
Filled the Kindle's storage with the filler script (PowerShell on Windows), as the guide says, to block auto-updates.
Downloaded WinterBreak 2 and extracted it onto the Kindle.
Ejected the Kindle, connected it to Wi-Fi, opened the built-in experimental browser and went to the WinterBreak URL.
Pressed the Jailbreak button and waited.
After that I removed the filler files and rebooted.
What happens:
At the end the browser shows a "Download file" popup saying it downloaded script%3EWinterbreak2.mobi. After that nothing else happens, and I don't find any new book in my library (I checked with "All" and by searching "winter" and "script").
Typing ;kpm update or ;kpm install koreader in the search bar does nothing. It just runs a normal search with 0 results.
The guide's next page says KUAL is obsolete and to use KPM from the search bar, but it doesn't mention any hotfix step.
Questions:
Is the .mobi download normal for WinterBreak 2, or does it mean the exploit failed?
Am I supposed to open that file from the library? Do I need to do anything after pressing the Jailbreak button?
Is there a way to check whether the jailbreak actually worked (e.g. ;log)?
Could the 5.16.2.1.1 firmware need a different method?
Thanks in advance for any help!
