worst branch in engineering anyone can choose in BTech

Metallurgy is often called a "low-tier" or "last resort" branch. Students who got lower ranks end up here and regret it deeply, especially if they had interest in coding or circuits. Reddit and Quora are full of posts like "Was it a mistake to choose Metallurgy?" with people calling it a nightmare.

Data doesn't lie: lower placements, lower salaries, harsher conditions. Choosing Metallurgy is a high-risk, low-reward gamble (e.g., "CSE avg 12 LPA vs. metallurgy 5 LPA").

Many students regret choosing it. They say it was a big mistake and wish they had taken another branch.

What's your opinion on it? is anyone taking core branches except mechanical engineering?

Ragging culture in JNTUh

Hi seniors, I hope you are doing well. I am a first-year student joining the xxxx department this year as a day scholar.

I wanted to ask a quick question regarding the campus environment during the initial weeks. Since I will be commuting daily and want to focus heavily on my studies and entrance prep from day one, how is the senior-junior interaction culture for day scholars here? Is it easy to maintain an independent, low-profile routine, or are there mandatory departmental interaction sessions we need to look out for?

Any guidance on how to smoothly navigate the first month would be great. Thanks!

"TS EAMCET – Considering Metallurgy at JNTUH. Seniors/Alumni please advise"

Hey everyone,

I'm a TS EAMCET aspirant considering **Metallurgical Engineering (or Metallurgy & Materials Engineering)** at JNTUH (main campus or affiliated college?).

I have a few specific questions:

  1. **Placements** — What’s the reality for core Metallurgy jobs vs mass recruiters? Average/highest package in recent years? Which companies visit for this branch?

  2. **Curriculum & Faculty** — Is the course updated? Good labs/facilities? How tough is it compared to Mech/Civil?

  3. **Future Scope** — Options after B.Tech (M.Tech, MS abroad, core jobs in steel/auto/defence, or switching to IT/software)? Any seniors who did well?

  4. **Campus Life** — Hostels, attendance, ragging (if any), overall environment for this branch.

  5. **Worth it?** — I’m getting this branch with my rank. Should I take it or go for a better branch in a private college? Any regrets from current students?

Background: My rank is 80k bca boy interested in [core materials field / or open to other options].

Thanks in advance! Any current students or recent alumni from this branch, please reply.
