This is one of many landlord specials we're reversing. This is the first floor fireplace that has some old tile and a gas fireplace. Anybody know much about the tile or the fireplace?

Clock anchor bridge not engaging other gears?

Hello all. Please forgive me as I am a total novice, and any information about my clock is from what I've learned trying to set it back up and what was left of the owners manual. I found this clock at a goodwill and picked it up for 50 bucks. It needed some TLC. I unjammed all the chains and got the weights set up.

The pendulum has seen better days, but I figured it would work for the time being. Put it on, leveled it best I could, and let it start swinging (weights are pulled up). I didn't hear any ticking and the pendulum starts to slow rather quick.

I looked at a lot of things, including making sure it's level (I did the best I could with a level I have). Does it need oiled, or is there an issue with the gears? I have read that the clock may be "out of beat" but I can't even get it to start ticking. I've attached some photos of the make of the clock as well as a video showing the anchor assembly and me moving the anchor arm to no gears really engaging (again, could be completely wrong) and the anchor is pretty difficult to move back and forth (not sure how easy it should be).

I will say that the suspension spring has seen better days and probably will need replaced, but would that stop it from ticking at all, even when trying to engage it manually?

Thanks in advance and sorry about my very surface level knowledge.

Worried about metal roofing reflection?

Hello all. Maybe a dumb question, but I am a novice to roofs. We bought a new (to us) home back in February. It has a large wrap around porch that has a very low pitch. We knew the porch roof would need replaced but it's now becoming a priority (we found it was a DIY botch job and shingles were a terrible choice for the roof pitch). Given the low pitch our options are limited, but I am leaning towards a metal roof for longevity and since it will work best with our pitch. However, above the porch is the 2nd story which currently is our main living area (home is a duplex we are converting back to a single family home).

I am worried that the glare would be bad in our upstairs rooms (through these three windows) and I don't want it to affect our neighbors across the street. Since it's a porch we aren't worried about energy conservation (as long as heat won't be reflected back inside). What would everyone recommend? Or would another type of roof type work better?
