Interesting take i dont think ive seen about Abigail and the murder husbands
Ive seen lots of fanwork and discussions talking about how Will and Hannibal vue Abigail but not how she sees them. Now my perspective may be off because i never realy connected with her and thought i never could empathise with her past the fact she was being used as a tool for almost her whole life. But a realisation ive come to is that whilst most media ive seen shows that Will sees Abigail as his daughter, she sees Hannibal as her father rather than Will.
Hannibal is the one who saves her life. He is the one who stops her bleeding out, who covered for her when she it was revealed she was a killer, who worked her through her father's treatment of her. Its no surprise that Hannibal is the one who she turned to when Will was freaking her out and when she chose to fake her death. Her first port of call, her light in the darkness was Hannibal.
She is never that close to Will. The closest we see her with Will is after she is already dead and is a figment of his imagination. Before then she isnt close with him, activly distences herself from him and gets spooked easily by his seizures. She is (likely) very willing to throw Will under the bus and blame him for her death in the flashback where we see her faking her death. In Wills eyes she is his daughter but she wouldnt give him a chance to be her father.
And theres parallels between Hannibal and Hobbs aswell that just dont fit with Will. Wills association with Hobbs as the first person he killed at the start of the series makes sense and it makes sense that he is haunted by that moving forwards but that is where the parallels end. Will is a fisher not a hunter, his attack style is depraved violence rather than skilled and thought out precision, Will cherishes Abigail as a fragile being of glass rather than a tool for his kills. There are no similarites between them. For Hannibal on the other hand they are much alike. They both have a more precise attack style inclicting only the nessicary amounts of harm to the flesh as they need for their presentation, both track down their prey in advance , both use all of the body either as meat or as presentation/decoration, both misuse Abigails trust to manipulate others and weaponise her against thier intended victims and (the most obvious parallel) they are both Cannibals driven to that end by the loss (or in Hobbs case potential loss) of someone they love dearly can't cannot bare to be appart from and because of this they both learn to use their cannibalism as forgiveness. The main differences between Hannibal and Hobbs is how they vue the people they kill with Hannibal seeing his kills as pigs for slaughter and Hobbs treating them as reverent sacrifices to be honoured. With Abigail being so accustom to Hobbs' actions and consiquently making the unconsious link between how he treats her and her version of what fatherhood should be, its no surprise that she should find comfort in the man who is the most familar to her and allow herself to be decived once again into believing that she is being loved for loves sake rather than being used as a tool.
Please feel free to correct me on any points ive missed/gotten completely wrong and i would love to hear alternate perspectives in the comments aswell
