I made a Naked-Eye 3D promo for the A24 "The Backrooms" movie using UE5 & nDisplay! (Live at Taipei Main Station)
Hey everyone,
With A24's The Backrooms movie releasing soon, I had the awesome opportunity to create a promotional teaser for its theatrical release here in Taiwan. We decided to bring that eerie liminal space directly into the real world.
It’s a naked-eye 3D (anamorphic illusion) display currently live inside Taipei Main Station. It was a relatively quick promo project, but seeing commuters do a double-take as they walk past the infinite yellow maze is incredibly satisfying.
Here is a quick breakdown of the setup & tech:
The Hardware: The display isn't just a standard screen; it's a 90-degree concave inner corner LED paired with an LED floor panel. Having that bottom plane really grounds the illusion and makes the room feel physically deep.
Visuals: Built completely in Unreal Engine 5.
nDisplay Magic: To make this work, I utilized UE's nDisplay technology. Syncing and projecting the anamorphic distortion correctly across three intersecting planes (Left Wall, Right Wall, and Floor) to perfectly align with the viewer's sweet spot was a fun technical challenge, and nDisplay handled it beautifully.
Here is a video of it in action:

If you happen to be in Taipei, go check it out!
Cheers!
