When I bought my 1991 na several years back I later noticed a hole cut into the frame by the driver side headlight. Why did someone do this?

My vinyl window cracked the other day and my vinyl top is showing its age and also has a few cracks/tears. I would like to know what color top looks better. It's currently black (top pick). Let me know what y'all think looks best plz!
