ND as daily vs NB/NC as second car?

I’m 24, I have always loved Miatas and wanted one. I recently graduated debt free and got a good job in cybersecurity so thinking about treating myself.

My current car is a paid off 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV with 50k miles. I like the car. It’s reliable, I get free EV charging at work, cheap insurance, good for stop and go traffic. I’ve Autocrossed it a couple of times too. It’s also nice to have the space when I need it.

Would it make more sense to pick up a NB/NC and keep the Bolt or sell the Bolt for a loaded ND?

My first Miata

Hey guys, just bought my first Miata about 3 weeks ago and I love the car 1991 1.6 liter with 178,XXX. Got under it to clean some of the grime and do an oil change the other day
And I saw small hole with threads inside that definitely didn’t look like a normal bolt hole I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me what’s up with it. The car runs and drives great and has some oil leaks but no fluid is dripping dripping out of the hole.

Honeymoon period ever end?

I purchased this low mileage NC as a weekend fun car and something to learn more about working on cars.

I kept my primary vehicle, which is an objectively ‘nicer’ car, but I’ve found myself only driving the Miata over the last 6 months because it makes commuting much more fun.

From your experience, does the honeymoon period ever end, and will I ever drive my ‘daily’ again? I figure once it gets cold I’ll drive it more, but wondering if having two cars is as necessary as I originally thought.

LAP RECORD 1990 Mazda Miata at Mid-Ohio Full Course

1:46.894

Following up the win I posted here in July at New Jersey Motorsports Park, here's my record-setting lap for my class (Showroom Spec Miata) at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course while chasing the leaders for the win. My full race replays and highlights can be found at rileykelley.com! Definitely left a few tenths on the table this lap, but still cleared the old record by seven tenths!

Buying a Miata. Will I fit?

So for some quick context, ive been looking at getting a new car, preferably something that is small and doesn't waste too much gas, while still looking pretty good. Searching for something that fits this criteria, I stumbled upon a 2000 Mazda Miata Mx-5. I have heard lots of good things about these cars which further motivated me to buy one, considering the low price tag.

One thing that I couldn't help but notice is that it looks very tiny, and I have also heard many people comment about the fact that if you're on the taller side, this car won't work for you. I just wanted to get an opinion from Miata owners that are on the taller side, on whether I could fit comfortably in one, so I am able to daily this car.

To be specific, I am roughly 6ft, maybe 6ft 1, and weigh around 205 pounds.

Give me your front lip suggestions.

I am thinking of going paint matched front lip. Nothing extravagant, I don't have side skirts... but I do like my oem splash guard / mud flaps.

1200km Sydney to Narrabri and back in a weekend in my little NB

Major advantage of this car on Aussie roads: when you go past a big road train you don't get kicked around by the wake vortex at all! It's too little and slippery. Range was pretty killer too. She got some bugs in her teeth though

Maintenance Help

I decided that my first maintenance/repair step for the new-to-me 1997 miata is an upper and lower shifter boot replacement. I’ve watched all the videos including flyinmiata and felt super comfortable with the maintenance. Bought all the tools and parts. Of course it wasn’t as straightforward as I thought.

Pulled the shifter out after dissembling the center console and the upper and lower boots. Turns out, the shifter was loose not because the bushing was worn, but because it didn’t exist. Great, that explains why it was insanely loose (see video in comments). But now, I notice there is a plastic piece that sits in the ridge on the shifter column that the lower portion is broken (see picture). Is this salvageable? Or should I get a whole replacement? Also, there are small pieces of the plastic down in the space where the shifter bushing normally sits. I carefully picked out all the small pieces. But I’m worried about that as well.

EDIT: apologies. I uploaded an additional photo in one of my comments to make it more clear which part that I’m referring to that’s broke. Thanks trying to help!

Considering moving from Supra

No complaints about my car. But I’m not sure it’s the best fit. I really just want something to thrash around county roads and take to the track occasionally. Maybe get into the community aspect too.

Let me preface this by saying, “usable power” makes sense to me. I don’t want a car that is fast in a straight line. I don’t need to be the fastest one on the track.

My question is, if I potentially wanted to be able to increase power slightly (and yes I know that’s the last mod to tackle, but eventually I do hope to get that far with it, just to have fun developing my own track car) would it be better to go with NC gen?

Just got my 1999 1.8 last week :)

Need a bit of work as usual, We have done a full service and replaced / painted the cam cover. I have been slowly working through the engine bay cleaning bits up, taking rust of bolts etc etc.

next job.. tighten or replace alternator belt (squealing like a bitch on start up). Could be water pump belt too I guess idk.

We learned something today

The first rain after a long drought makes the asfalt way more slippery than normal wet asfalt

First off all, I'm allright and most importantly the car is relatively fine.

The left front weel is turned outward and the back right panel is severely damaged 💔

Apart from that she looks fine
