UPDATE

From my last post I mentioned that they are nipping at each other and biting when feeding time and every one said I need to separate or rehome which I was gonna do but another comment said they could just have very poor eyesight and mistake each other for food as they can smell it so I needed to hand feed, I’ve been doing this for 1 week now and it’s been perfect, no nipping no biting nothing they’ve been together non stop sometimes lying on top of each other so they are quite happy with each other now . Thanks for all the help in the last post guys👍👍

Help!!!

I recently rescued a baby axolotl from its previous owner, who had been keeping it in a bucket. It now lives with my older black axolotl (estimated 3–4 years old), and overall they’ve been getting along well.

The only issue is during feeding. When I feed pellets without hand-feeding, the baby seems to mistake almost anything for food and will nip at the older axolotl before quickly realising the mistake and swimming away. The older axolotl will only occasionally give a small nip back, which I assume is just a warning.
Is there any way to prevent this behaviour?

I do
hand-feed earthworms whenever I can, but they’re difficult to find. I live in New Zealand, and you can’t really buy them where I am. If anyone has tips for finding earthworms without having to dig up the entire garden, I’d really appreciate it!

Also, I am slowly removing the sand, as it is quite hard to do and I didn’t know you shouldn’t have it when I first got my older girl.

The tank perimeters are 200 litres 91 × 50 × 46 cm),

(Her gills have always been short btw so she’s healthy as) quick question: are pellets and blood worms are good main source of food if you don’t have access to to earth worms
