Considering a poodle
I’m considering a standard poodle for our next dog. We currently have a Siberian husky and a dachshund, they are not great together but it is manageable with training and a close eye. My dachshund is elderly and slowing down a lot. We love how smart our husky is and love that she can keep up with us for long walks but she is very independent and aloof ideally we would like a more loving companion that can also cuddle. We were thinking about after my dachshund passes in a couple of years about adding a poodle to the pack.
Questions for you all that have a poodle?
Does your poodle have issues with addisons disease and if so how is managing that?
Do they have a strong prey drive if we decided to get one before my dachshund passes?
Are long walks, playing in the yard, obedience training enough exercise and mental stimulation or would you recommend more?
Is grooming at home with lots of learning realistic for a motivated owner? I feel good about managing my husky’s undercoat when she molts lol but am I going to be in over my head to think I can learn to groom my poodle?
What does a typical day look like for you and your poodle?
How does your poodle get along with other dogs?
What are your favorite haircuts?
What are your favorite manageable haircuts when life is busy or during your busier season like summer time?
Do you have a recommended breeder that has a very limited number of litters per year and genetically tests their dogs?
