Update!

Hi again Reddit! Thank you for all your advice on my baby:) To help with the temperature until my dimming thermostat comes in I have the light angled slightly off the bottom of the tank! It’s aided in keeping the tank cooler by about 10 degrees so that’s had be feeling a lot better. (The temperature is low right now because the lamp has only been on for a little bit, it is rising)

For some info about it, my baby’s name is Taquito! We found out last night that she was a girl! Not a boy like the store told us! There’s no mistaking that tail has a sharp point. I had my boyfriend lure her out of the sand with a rat during feeding to check it out.. and sure enough she’s got a small pointy tail.

She will probably be getting a tank upgrade within the next year:)

When we bought her, they told us she was very picky and would often refuse to eat, but we just got through her third feeding with no fail! She’s starting to latch onto the food way quicker, which I hope means she’s more comfortable.
The fact the pet store had such trouble getting her to eat really shows me how little some people care for these beauties. All you have to do is play with the rat a little, activate their instincts mann.

Another question, where is it recommended that I get some live plants? Also is the humidity too low? I try to keep it in the low 40s

Opinion on Set Up?

Got this baby about 3-4 weeks ago, and they’re about a year old. Been handled about three times so far (one was to redo their tank) and has been eating great. We got them a 40gal tank, I just want to know if the humidity/temperature levels were good:) I have a mix of sand and repti-soil from petsmart in there now(I do not frequently buy from petsmart that’s just my closest pet supplies store) and currently have some coconut fiber drying out to add. The dried plants spread around are moss to give them more hides and help with humidity. Any advice or opinions is great :) there’s also a chance this tank will be upgraded in a year since my baby boy might actually be a girl! So no fret about size.

I’ve also heard some sand boas like climbing! Should I add anything for them to climb on? My baby seems to mainly enjoy burrowing but it’s worth an ask.

Thank you Reddit!
