PPF Rock dent in fender

Got super unlucky today when driving on the highway and a big rock came across the guard rail and smoked my fender.

Based on the attached photos do you think this is worth removing PPF and getting paintless dent repair or should I just take the PPF off and get another piece put on.

Let me know what you think!

Unitronic Stage 1+ vs Stage 2

Hello all,

I am wondering if anyone can help me out with making a decision on which route to go.

I just purchased a CTS high flow catted downpipe with the thought process of going stage 2, but I am seeing a bunch of guys recommending Stage 1+ as the right spot for a daily driver.

I am trying to decide between the following options. Please help me!

Stage 1+ with intercooler and intake: 446hp 410 tq

Stage 2 with intercooler, intake, and downpipe: 470hp and 431 tq

Is it worth it to swap the downpipe or should I return downpipe, get the unitronic intercooler, and call it a day? Or should I grab the stage 2 and essentially go FBO?

I am looking for reliability and daily drivability.

Thanks all!

OBDEleven for MK8 Golf R

Can anyone tell me if this is worth it for the mk8?

I’m not in love with the idea that I have to pay for credits, and get a $100 for a pro plan just to do long coding as well.

Is it worth it for only diagnostics alone?

What are some of the functions you guys have done other then turning off soundaktor?

MK8 Golf R Intercooler Question

Photo for traction!

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction for an intercooler, as I am gearing up to do Unitronic Stage 1+ and Unitronic Stage 2 TCU as well.

From my understanding most intercoolers are going to be much better then stock, however, I am looking for the most cost effective and best cooling capacity.

Also it needs to be a direct fit style, not a front mount intercooler.

I have seen Unitronic being highly regarded for fitment, although it’s not the biggest in size.

I have also seen that CTS Turbo has one of the bigger core sizes compared to the rest and it also comes with charge pipes. It is on sale right now for 915 cad from 1100.

Does anyone have experience with the CTS turbo intercooler? If so, how is your experience with installation, fitment, and performance.

Please feel free to recommend any intercooler or what you think about Unitronic vs CTS intercooler, as I am open to options!

Vibration in Brake and Gas Pedal

Photo attached for traction.

Wondering if anyone has ever experienced the situation below I am dealing with.

I have recently got into a used 2024 golf r, with only 7500km on the clock. The car drives beautifully and everything is pristine.

I am not sure if what I am experiencing is actually an issue, or I am being too sensitive to this situation, but while driving on the highway at 105km/h or more, and on different pavements, the road noise is quite high and I feel a high frequency vibration in both gas and brake pedal, as well as in the floor of the car a little bit, right under the gas pedal.

When driving in down I can feel it as well, and it varies from time to time. Sometimes I’ll come to a stop with the brakes and around 30km/h I’ll feel the vibration in the pedal and then it will go away. It also happens at certain rpm’s when accelerating.

I did also notice a slight shake in the steering wheel at 120km/h or more as well recently. It’s quite faint though

I thought it might be a road force balance issue, but I am not sure. I find it hard to believe it’s a wheel bearing or a bent rim due to the condition of the car and the mileage.

I did find a missing weight on the driver side rear rim, but not sure if that could produce such a high frequency vibration. It’s not shaking anything it’s more of a faint buzz that I can feel in my foot, almost like the feeling of your foot falling asleep slightly.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

I’m sorry for the run on sentences haha.

MK8 Golf R Tunes

Hey all,

Photo attached for traction.

Wondering if anyone can comment on their experience with ECU + TCU tunes on the MK8 golf r now that the TCU has been cracked.

I am looking at stage 1/1+ and wondering which tuner I should go with for the best balance of power and reliability.

I am considering Unitronic, Apr, IE, and Tunezilla.

I change oil every 4k miles or 6k kms and take care of necessary service intervals for all.

I currently have the Unitronic Carbon intake and hose and looking at an intercooler next.

Not sure which tuner to go with though, if anyone can tell me their experience with their tuner!!

Thanks in advance!

MK8.5 Pure White Mirror Caps

Hi all,

Been contemplating getting some white or silver mk8 mirror caps for my pure white mk8.5 golf r base.

I’m on the fence because the car comes with black mirror caps from factory, which are stealthy but I kinda want a more cohesive look.

I recently switched my centre emblem back from the black edition one since it looks a little weird without the rest of the black package.

Let me know if you think white or silver mirror caps would look better?

Mk8/8.5 Golf R Catback

Hey everyone,

Photo for traction!

Has anyone installed the CTS Turbo valved catback exhaust on their mk8 or mk8.5 golf r yet?

It’s the best budget option for a solid valved catback, and I’m wondering if anyone has it on their car and can give me a little review on it?

I am looking at getting it and just want to hear how it is prior to pulling the trigger. Does it drone a lot? How are the valves?

Please let me know!

Hey everyone,

Wondering if anyone is able to tell me if the Unitronic TCU mech swap would hypothetically work on the MK8.5 golf r?

I know the ECU is currently locked and it’s looking like it’s going to be locked for a good bit longer. As for the TCU obviously it’s locked in its current form, but would a mech swap fix this?

I know the mk8 and mk8.5 golf r share the same DQ381 Transmission, so it kind of seems like it would, but I am unsure.

If anyone knows, please let me know, as I plan on adding a JB4 onto my car and want to know if a TCU tune with a mech swap may be an option while the ECU is locked.
