Initial thoughts on the ZF Tudor BB54, as I have just received this piece in hand. It looks and feels absolutely great- the clasp with T-fit and the resistance of the flip lock mechanism/clasp have a very satisfying detent. Even better is the bezel action, which might be the best of any non-gen watch I’ve ever felt- it’s smooth, has just the right amount of resistance, and the sound of the clicks is extremely similar to my own gen Tudor 925. Winding and time setting is very smooth, and the watch runs well, nothing much to say there. Unfortunately, as with all Tudor Black Bay models from ZF, this utilizes a stock ETA2824 clone, which means we are limited to around 40hrs of power reserve, and there is a ghost date position. Not a huge deal, just would be nice if they could address this at some point. Until then, it’s up to people like me to swap the keyless for a no-date version. The bracelet feels very solid overall, perhaps a little bit sharp on the edges, but I’d confidently say it gives the best available rep jubilee bracelets a run for their money. I personally have a ZF Tudor 5-link like this one fitted to my personal 925 and you’d never be able to tell it’s not gen without having them side by side/

TL;DR: it’s a good watch! Great build quality and feel overall, would recommend! Despite its smaller size it wears extremely well on my 7.25 inch wrists.

General consensus within the rep community is that a DD movement is preferable to it’s SH equivalent. But lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of SH movements in watches from RCF, QF, and ARF performing incredibly well, as well as having a better feel in some cases when it comes to winding smoothness and the resistance in the crown when setting the time. I find a lot of DD movements are louder when winding, and feel a bit looser when setting the time. Aside from having an escapement that is compatible with genuine Rolex parts, is there truly a reason for having a strong preference for DD movements over modern SH movements? SH even finishes more of the inner plates of the movement like genuine Rolex, which DD does not do. Interested in hearing your thoughts!
