Anytime Fitness gym closure

So recently I went overseas and when I came back a few days ago I realised my gym is currently closed due to renovation. They did give a notice before that on their blackboard in the gym saying “gym closure on 28 September for reno” or something like that. Originally I thought it was a small thing they were going to make changes to that took more than 8 hours, since it said “on” and not “from”.

I signed a 18 month contract with them last June. I signed with this gym mainly because of convenience, it’s right opposite my house (2min walk). The nearest other AFs are minimally 1.6km away and there is a newly renovated activesg like 1.8km away so there’s no difference lol. Now the thing I’m wondering is can I put my membership on hold? I signed during a promotion so my contact is 89/month, and since the next nearest outlet is basically the same distance as an activesg (~18/month) it doesn’t really make sense for me to pay an additional $70 per month. For context I’m also 18yo so $70 is a considerable additional sum of money for me, but I was willing to pay the premium simply for convenience (since I can pop by anytime for a short workout(i usually go another time at night for a 15m core workout everyday) as and when i like.

For those more informed about anytime fitness, can I ask:

  1. Which gym will be the one receiving my monthly payment going forward (if I don’t go / go to multiple gyms)?
  2. Will my membership still be 89/month? When I signed the guy told me for his gym it’s only 89/month cause he don’t charge gst and other fees.
  3. Will the timing of my monthly payment change? Currently payment is deducted every 5th of the month for me
  4. And most importantly can I put my membership on hold? It’s pointless for me to pay 5x what I can pay for a public gym the same distance as the next closest af.

Please advise, thank you 🙏
