Fuck big oil
Shouldn't oil barons be left out of creating climate policy?
"It's fine. We can phase out fossil fuels once we're done."
And don't forget Secret Agent Jellyfish
Some consumption choices might mean something. Others? Not so much...
Can our consumption choices matter? Yes. But the most important things we can do involve larger political changes, and especially those going after the biggest polluters.
Is this the only sane way to cross oceans? Please respond.
Let's see:
- Planes pollute too much
- Cruise ships pollute waaay too much
- Trains and buses don't run on water
- I can't walk on water and can barely swim
- Cargo ship travel means paying out the nose
Night trains, not night planes
Long live Amtrak!
Stay grounded is based btw.
Damn you offset companies
I just want to find a decent emissions calculator so I can get a rough idea of how to potential itineraries/trips compare. Instead, I get these grifters trying to part me w/ my money.
By popular demand, I'll roast myself
No, I don't seriously think this. I'm just making fun of myself (and this sub at large).
Both are important but remember that #1 > #2
In case some of you thought I was a neoliberal corporate bootlicker...no
I know some nuance got lost in the meming and shitposting but, to be VERY clear, megacorps (especially fossil fuel companies), governments, and billionaires/the epstein class have FAR more influence on the climate "per capita" than an average member of the globabl 1%. The 1% have a far larger impact than an average member of the global 10%, etc.
At least among the top several percent globally, and especially the top several percent in the "west" or global north, there are things we can do to have more of an impact (like more efficient cars or not driving, or insulation). But political actions is REALLY important.
Edit: As for veganism or avoiding animal products, I mostly just think ethical/moral arguments are much more compelling/convincing than environmental ones. Specifically, I think they make a much better case for why I as an individual have an obligation to change how I live. And I'm also just more used to thinking about animal issues from that angle.
