I’ve been building what I call “The Absolute Best of Kanye Omari West” playlist, and I have a very strict set of rules.
This is not a greatest hits playlist. This is not a favorites playlist. This is not a playlist where I just throw every song I like into it.
Rules:
Every album must have a minimum of 2 songs to qualify for inclusion.
Every album can have a maximum of 4 songs.
No exceptions.
Songs are judged individually, but albums are judged collectively.
Personal enjoyment matters more than popularity, streaming numbers, critic scores, or fan consensus.
For example, if an album has only one song I think is amazing, that album does not get included. The album has to produce at least two songs worthy of being in the playlist.
This is why albums like Donda, Donda 2, Vultures 1, and Vultures 2 are not included for me. It’s not because they don’t have any good songs. Hurricane and Carnival are great songs. The problem is that those albums don’t produce enough songs that reach my standard.
On the other hand, albums like Graduation have the opposite problem. Graduation has so many songs I love that I have to leave amazing songs off the playlist because of the 4-song maximum.
My current Graduation picks are:
Good Morning
Champion
Good Life
Homecoming
But Everything I Am is making me reconsider things.
The dilemma:
Do I replace Good Morning with Everything I Am?
Or do I keep the playlist exactly as it is?
I do NOT want to give Graduation a 5th song because that breaks the entire system. If Graduation gets 5 songs, then every qualifying album would need the opportunity to get a 5th song, and many albums simply don’t have 5 songs that meet the standard.
So my question is:
Given these rules, should Everything I Am replace Good Morning, or should it remain the greatest song that didn’t make the cut?
