Uncovering brick required?

The front flower beds of our home have soil that go all the way up to the brick, but is still substantially below the weep holes. We have a mold issue in our crawlspace so have had to encapsulate and put in a dehumidifier - but I want to redo our landscaping to be more protective against moisture.

  • Do I need to dig up all the soil until I reach the cinderblocks? my husband thinks soil against the brick is fine since the weep holes are so high up. our first story flooring is also above the weep hole level. the grates go to our crawlspace
  • If I do need to dig up soil, how do I grade away from the house if my sidewalks/driveway are higher?
  • Do I need to edge my house with rock regardless of whether I dig up the soil? and do I need to have french drains in the rock or is just rocks sufficient? we have gutters above redirecting water from the roof

Would greatly appreciate any and all advice on steps to take to do this the right way. the overgrown grass would be replaced by an herb garden.

Cowboy hat and a chicken coop

Since welcoming our son in February to our tiny family (now 2under2), I’ve struggled incredibly lately with feeling beautiful and like my efforts with the children were valued. My husband is a wonderful man that works hard hours to provide for our family so it’s typically just me at home holding down the fort. And unfortunately, he’s a man of incredibly few romantic words.

But thank the universe he’s a man of incredible action. This Mother’s Day he made breakfast after letting me sleep in and he’s been outside busting his butt in the heat that turned into a downpour to build me the new chicken coop of my dreams (for animals he didn’t even want). And the way he looks, and looks at me, while wearing a cowboy hat in a drizzle and unloading 2x4s will be the reason we probably have 3under3 lol.

While he may not say it with words, in every action he shows I’m adored, and my only hope is that y’all are getting that kind of affirmation this Mother’s Day too.
