I got to be that guy

Played with two newbies yesterday. They were brothers in their 30s. One was playing for a few months and the other’s first time was that day. They shanked the ball all over. It wasn’t pretty. Thankfully the whole course was backed up so it didn’t matter.

They were nice and respectful. Them being new, I asked if it was okay if I gave them advice and they said yes. I didn’t overload them I just gave each person one tip and left it at that. Then later on they asked me a few more questions which was cool. Ftr, it was also cool having someone be impressed with my 220 yard drives. It made my day.

I brought some home made jerky to share and was teaching them etiquette as they were asking. I emphasized that nobody cares if you stink. There’s just a rule that if you are bad then you need to be fast, which they really listened to.

They thanked me and my friend for being so cool and patient. I replied with, “hopefully you’ll get to be like that with other first timers in a couple years”.

I’m just happy I got to be kind to people. I wasnt always paired with the nicest people and am glad I got to be the change.

1st project

This is my first woodworking project. I’m beyond proud of this. I’ve learned a lot and reflected while on how to make the process easier if I were to do this again.

There were a lot of times where I was overwhelmed and would take a week or two off bc I wasn’t sure how to do something correctly and I didn’t want to mess it up. I got over my fear of perfectionism. As an add bonus, my mother in law learned how to sew so she could make the cushions in the last picture. Thoughts?

No Practices Swings

Yesterday I shot a 52 on the front 9 but my best shots were when I would just walk up to the ball and swing. No thins no chunks, just good contact. I have a habit of standing over the ball and tending up even though I do t try to. On the back 9 I figured no practice swings ( unless I’m chipping). I had a 3 hole stretch of par, birdie, par, which is quite rare for me. I ended up shooting 45 on the back 9 and it was a pretty difficult course.

Does anyone else find they shoot better with no practice swings?

Also, anyone have experience on how to get you of your own head and just hit the ball?

Can you hit them?

I played last Sunday with three friends and the tee times were 8 minutes apart. Our tee time was 11:42 and we teed off late bc it was backed up. By the time we were finished with the first hole, we were 40 minutes into the round, which absolutely blew but we knew it’d clear up after a couple holes.

On the 3rd box, we’re waiting for the group to get onto the green and there’s a hill so it’s a little blind as you can barely see the tip of the flag. A single behind us who must have been in his early 60s asked “can you hit them?” I said “idk, I can’t see them and know they’re not done with the hole yet”. Two of my friends were annoyed and one was pretty livid thinking he was audacious for asking. I thought it was an honest question, I let it slide.

Fast forward to the 8th tee box. The pace smoothed out and then it bottle necked here as it’s the hardest hole. There’s a group two groups ahead that’s having a hard time hitting the ball, the group ahead of us is waiting, we’re waiting and the group behind us is waiting. It’s probably about 10 minutes and I’m on the box again, and he asked the same thing. The group was only 200ish out. My friend went Bazerk. He let the guy have it for a good 5 minutes. I started to feel bad for the older guy. Then come to find out as we catch up to the group ahead of us again that this guy was insufferable. He tried lying to the starter saying his tee time was 11:05 instead of 11:50. Apparently he was just a jerk.

Last altercation came when he hit up on the on friend that already freaked out on him. It was embarrassing to be affiliated with him in the moment but at the same time, that older guy never had to be a deusch. Enough time had passed where it’s funny.

I guess the morale of the story is be careful who you try to rush… also, don’t be like my friend, bc I won’t introduce him to any more of my golfing friends bc how it could reflect on me.
