Did Blood Omen 2's devs intend for it to take place in an alternate timeline?

As you can see in the screenshots, Blood Omen 2 is now marketed as being set in an "alternate timeline" up front, which it wasn't originally back in the day (unless I'm misremembering, it was over 20 years ago lol).

But... did the dev team intentionally set out to make a game that was set in an "alternate timeline"? If Steve Ross, etc saw this description now, would they raise an eyebrow at it, or nod in agreement?

As an aside, I've gone down plenty of deep dives into the development of Blood Omen 2, and one thing I really can't get my head around is the inclusion of Janos... there must have been at least some communication between the dev teams if Janos appears in BO2 and looks largely the same as he does in SR2? Unless Janos orginally appeared in BO2 and then Amy Hennig and the SR2 quickly added him into their game to keep everything in line?

I'm possibly clutching here, but I noticed a bit of a similarity between the Underworld at the start of BO and the Avernus catercombs in Defiance... specifically the way the platform overlooks a big red pit. Is it possible the original Defiance team intended this to be the same spot?

It would be kind of cool to think Kain was raised from the dead by Mortanius in the same place he would one day come back to life after his battle with Raziel.

Maybe they just look similar, but I wondered if anyone else has had this theory before?

I believe these images got added to the Bonus Gallery after the recent patch. I don't recall seeing them ever before, are they new for the Remaster, or have they been knocking around for a while? There's some juicy stuff here, including a Soul Reaver III logo, the woman in Vorador's painting, Umah as a human, and an ancient vampire that seems to have a blackened right hand... which immediately made me think of Elaleth...
