Hampden Fresh Test Run

First test drive with the new Hampden Estate Fresh (unaged) rum. Really quite delicious. The funk that’s quite present when tasting neat play nicely with the lime. Glad I picked up this bottle at Whisky Live Paris.

0.75 oz lime
0.5 oz rich simple syrup
2 oz Hampden Estate Fresh

Yet Another Unaged Jamaican Overproof

So, this caught my eye while looking for something in the TTB COLA database. In the last couple of years we've seen a veritable explosion of Jamaican unaged overproof rums at 63% ABV. Now Myers's is joining the party.

I've not tasted it, but if I had to wager, I'd imagine it'll be closer to W&N than Rum Fire. We shall see. UPDATE: label says aged and filtered, something I've not seen before in this category.

Label approval was May 2026. A quick google search didn't turn up anything about it online that I could find. No idea if/when it will be available, but there you go!

New Mai-Tai Rum

Among the first hand bottled expressions from a most unusual new rum company. While Something Something Rum is a very new Amsterdam-based brand, its founders are very experienced in the rum and cocktail space. Radical transparency is part of the ethos - study the 2nd image, which condenses quite a bit of detail about the exact blend components into an interesting infographic.

Mai-Tai Blend XXV is the 25th iteration of working with a certain very well-known Amsterdam rum merchant. Bottled 50.5% ABV, it contains rums from Guyana, Jamaica, Martinique, and Guadeloupe. I’ve had a Mai-Tai made with this rum and it’s outstanding.
