Legendary Facebook Marketplace Find!

Found this original Witco Outrigger on Facebook marketplace for $35! It’s massive at about 5 feet wide. Now I just have to find a place to put it!

Which tiki drinks would benefit from these bitters?

Picked up Bittermens ‘Elemakule bitters and Ms. Better’s pineapple star anise bitters.

What tiki drinks would they shine in, do you think?

Went thrifting with a friend who is going to host a Tiki party. $4 each! Such hideous goodness!

I’m in charge of beverages, she’s hosting and decor. Cheers everyone!

Just got a juicer…

So after debating for a while, I recently grabbed a masticating juicer specifically to have fresh pineapple juice on hand. And for the first drink made using the juice, I figured I’d go with a Painkiller riff.

The spec is:

4oz fresh pineapple juice
1oz fresh orange juice
0.25oz fresh lime juice
1oz cream of coconut (SC recipe)
1oz Pusser’s
1oz Pusser’s Gunpowder Proof
0.5oz Planteray Mr. Fogg Sail #2
0.5oz El Dorado LBI/DHE High Ester Blend
0.25oz Hampden LROK The Younger

Garnish with an orange wheel, pineapple fronds, and a generous dusting of fresh grated nutmeg — then enjoy the last afternoon of the long weekend.

What glassware is everyone using?

I actually find myself using glassware more often than my tiki mugs. Just feels more nostalgic. I also enjoy "seeing" the drink in the glass. Anyone else a big glassware person?

Barfly Jumbo Juicer - Bitter?

Just picked up a jumbo juicer and it seems like the juice it produces is much more bitter than when squeezing with a hand juicer, which I guess I shouldn’t be surprised by, due to the greater amount of oils extracted from the peel. Barfly promotes this as a big plus for the unit, but I’m getting some very negative feedback. Am I doing something wrong?

Made my Parents Some Proper Mai Tais

My parents aren’t big rum drinkers and probably haven’t a real rum drink in years. I made them the Trader Vic classic with a blend of rums. I made one of them with a 1/4 oz less of orgeat and lime juice. Left glass is from Inside Passage in Seattle and the right glass is from False Idol in San Diego.

Ingredients:
-1 oz lime juice
-1/2 oz Orgeat
-1/4 oz Demerara Syrup
-1/2 oz Orange Curaçao
-1/2 oz Appleton Estate Signature
-1/2 oz Appleton Estate 12 Year
-1/2 oz Smith and Cross
-1/2 oz Stiggin’s Fancy Pineapple Rum

Instructions:
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with pebble ice. Shake and pour unstrained into a Mai Tai glass. Garnish with a mint sprig and spent lime half.

A lil Mai Tai using some new acquisitions

Picked up the J.M. Shrubb and Yes Cocktail Co. orgeat today at Bitters & Bottles in SF.

Made a half Mai Tai to try them out.

- 1/2 oz Appleton Estate Signature
- 1/4 oz Smith & Cross
- 1/4 oz RL Seale’s 12
- 3/8 oz lime juice
- 1/4 oz JM Shrubb
- 1/4 oz Yes Cocktail Co orgeat

I think I’m in love. The Yes orgeat has a bit of the marzipan flavor of Liber & Co but is less overpowering. JM Shrubb may be the most delicious orange liqueur I’ve ever tasted. I think I may just make the other half… perhaps I’ll change up the rums just to see how it goes, but I do like this particular rum combo.

Happy 4th!

For those in the US, what are we drinking today to celebrate? Trying for a red, white, and blue theme? What would you say is the most patriotic of tiki drinks?

4th of July Kahiko Punch!

Made a huge batch of Kahiko Punch (Smuggler's Cove recipe) for a friend's party and it's a hit! It's a tad sweet for my taste but it mellows out when the ice melts.

The Specs:

-1/2 oz scratch cinnamon simple

-1 oz lemon

-1/2 scratch Hibiscus liquor (SC recipe, I made mine with Appleton signature)

-1.5 oz passion fruit honey syrup

-2 oz pot still unaged rum (I used Wray and Nephew)

-6 drops tiki bitters

Scale the amounts up for however many people are at the party.
