Backyard Bar Tiki Dock: Final Form

I posted a mostly complete version last week. Now is the real finished product.

My backyard “dock” deck on the other side of the yard from the bar

Technically we are like 95% complete, but close enough to share

A couple of weeks shy of 3 years, project complete

We tore down an old stacked stone wall and removed a gas fireplace insert. After navigating my way through that mess, I installed the new stone and built maple cabinet carcasses and a maple mantle carcass in September of last year. I finally locked in and over the course of 5 days off I finished the cabinets, attached the face frames, sanded stained and installed both set of uppers and lowers. Figured out what to do for lower doors(sliding due to space constraints) and then finally built out, finished and installed the mantle. Technically I’m not 100% complete because I need to change out the directional lighting with smart wafer lights, but otherwise I’m done and can finally grab a beer. Last picture is for the tv police.

80 Corridor Tiki Trip Planned

I live in Sacramento and am planning a little tiki tour this Thursday. We are starting at Trader Vic’s in Emeryville at opening time, then heading to Wilfred’s in Napa, then to Shipwrecked in Davis. If time and energy allows we will try to hit a new place called Daytripper that I think is like Tropical/Caribbean tiki adjacent. That being said, what are the must have recipes that stand out at those bars? I’ve never been to a Trader Vic’s or to Wilfred’s. I’ve been to Shipwrecked in Sacramento a ton but never the Davis location. I’m trying to avoid tripping over my tongue asking bartenders and servers for recommendations.

I made my own swizzle sticks for my home bar and I’m stoked

I recently got a laser cutter specifically for this not knowing what it would snowball too. I hand drew the designs in one program, moved to another to change file types, then moved to final app to process only to discover HOURS worth of troubleshooting. But, I’m passed all that and I’ve got it down. This is the v1 with a lot of notes for the next batch. Plus a couple of friends donated their own logo files for me to learn with so they’ll get batches of their own as a thank you.

In search of better paint options

I am making these for a local group but I’m looking for a better paint option. The ones I’ve tried so far have either too runny and brush strokes show through or like this one, too chalky. Also a spray option would be nice just do to the volume I’m doing. Any suggestions are appreciated.

A rare two day weekend for me, great chance to try out some new glassware

I made a Blue Hawaii for 626. This is the first time I’ve purchased bottled sweet n sour in ten years. It’ll be another ten.

Capuchin Caper

I’ve been tinkering with this as a house recipe for my home bar “The Thieving Monkey” for several months. Recipe below:

1 oz Bourbon

1 oz OFTD

1 oz pineapple juice

.75 oz lime juice

.5 oz cinnamon syrup

.25 oz pimento dram/ allspice dram

.5 oz banana liqueur

3 dashes tiki bitters

A bit spirit forward, a bit spicy but not too strong in either direction. Built off of a modern rum barrel spec and twisted about a bit.

Trouble sourcing materials

I just bought a flux beamo kind of impulsively and I’m having trouble finding acrylic stock that will fit the work bed. I am complete beginner when it comes to lasers. Is there a better known 12x6 source? Should I just buy bigger stock and cut it on my table saw? Any pointers would be great.

Retrieve The Golden Claw (Completed)

Yes, we did have a bit of a... break-in. But we still have plenty to sell. Robbers were only after one thing. An ornament, solid gold. In the shape of a dragon's claw.

I found a 3D printed Golden Claw. I thought it would be a nice piece for my home bar “The Thieving Monkey”
