Laser cutting files and AI

I just got my laser cutter up and running and am curious if there are sites that DON'T use ai to create their files? I know a lot craft fairs are getting very strict about no ai art so I am thinking before I start buying any files, is there someplace that I should avoid and/or ones that I should take a look at first? I admit I am not the most tech savy person so not 100% sure how to tell if a file is one that will either disqualify/get me kicked out of a show or cause someone to go off on me.

Flux Beamo

I got a flux beamo off of ebay (I know, likely my first mistake haha) and it turns on but can't seem to move? I've looked at the online guides but nothing I've done has worked. Anyone have this problem?

Laserpecker LP1 Removable Cone Shield

I'm not a wood worker, but since I made my decision to get the LP1 based on the posts from this sub, thought this might be useful in this sub too.

As you might know, the higher power ones come with a cone shield, this one just comes with glasses. And the separate shield unit was expensive in my opinion.

Made this one with some leftover dual color PLA, so please ignore the layer lines in my prints, it's a color artifact, not print calibration issues. And PLA is fine since diode laser at this power can’t do anything to it, as long as the user is fine not seeing the entire process. The gap in the back to peek thru with the glasses if one must.

The height of the cone is also the focal distance of the laser. So the user wouldn't have to use the ruler anymore.

Anyways, all to say that if there was any interest, I can share the files somewhere so you can download them and make one for yourself.

Painting Laser Cut Acrylic Earrings Help?

https://preview.redd.it/roy3ujnv0abh1.png?width=694&format=png&auto=webp&s=688e2909a0951a96809226789b1e41efc2614e56

I've tried changing my settings, the paint I use, and the way in which I apply the paint. I hate the outcome every single time. Can anyone help me fill the lines cleaner and not lose the paint when I go to remove the masking tape? This specific one I even sprayed with the clear rustoleum lacquer and let it cure for 24 hours before filling with acrylic paint. I'm at a loss on what to do now. Any help would be appreciated.

Acrylic Sourcing

According to the place i ordered this from, these two acrylics are identical, and only the masking is different. Even though they are different colors, cut completely differently and engrave completely differently. The image i posted is of both, side by side, same settings, same machine, printed at the exact same time. Needless to say i wont be using them any longer, but i need to find a new place. does anyone have any recommendations of suppliers who carry Marga Cipta matte black?

Help find suitable machine for stencil cutting

Hello laser expert people! I am looking to find a machine that I can use for cutting Mylar to make stencils. I have a diode laser already and am using that to cut black mylar but the standard transparent sheets are cheaper and I am hoping to find something that can handle workpieces up to around 400x400mm or so. The machine will be for stencil cutting only so I dont think I need huge power or anything fancy? It seems to important thing is a CO2 machine (not diode) as that will handle the transparent mylar. I have seen 'open gantry' machines and I would be able to fabricate an enclosure myself so this seems like a good route? Cost (as ever) is important but I am happy to spend money for something half decent, reliable and accurate. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you !!!

Should I upgrade my 20w diode to a 60w?

So I'm currently running an xtool 20w, and I was thinking of upgrading to a lasertree 60w module, but I read a comment on another post that said they could only cut 1/4" plywood in 1 pass at 150mm-220mm/min. I can sometimes cut 1/4 inch plywood faster than that in 1 pass with my 20w. Does anybody here have experience cutting 1/4 plywood with the lasertree 60w module? Is that other persons comment accurate? If so, could it maybe be a focal length issue? I want to be able to cut 1/4 ply faster without buying an expensive co2 laser.

Attached a pic of a lamp I made a while back.

[OC] My wooden clock diy kit in action, all laser cut from oak

https://reddit.com/link/1umhsj4/video/uncez64cq6bh1/player

My diy gear clock kit in action. Everything is laser cut from 4mm oak plywood, the gears push onto wooden axles that are also laser cut from wooden rods (used for furniture assembly) and the clock parts just clicks together, no glue.

The packing is also all done by laser cutting the 10mm foam and 3mm cork and also engraving the packaging.

Trickiest part was the tolerances. Plywood is never exactly 4mm so for each batch i nudge the hole sizes by about 0.05mm so the press fit stays tight but still goes on nice.

Runs on a normal quartz movement tweeked a little.

Engraving on acrylic glass through a foil layer

Hey everyone,

I'm very new to anything lasercutting, but got assigned the task to create some trophies at work in our makerspace.

Basically, the plan is to have 2 cm thick acrylic glass blocks that get a design engraved with the laser cutter. Last year's trophies had an additional layer of gold on the back that was also cut through and made it look much nicer, but the coworker that did that isn't available to ask for his process/resources. I suspect he milled it, but I don't have access to that, so I gotta use the laser.

I'm wondering what the best way to do it is. Is there some kind of self-adhesive foil that I can apply and then laser through? From my research it looked like Vinyl and polycarbonate foils either have nasty vapors or dont laser very cleanly.

Another option would be spraypaint, but again, I'm unsure what kinds and if they laser cleanly. Edit: Would alkyd based paints work?

If the risk of messing it up is too great, I'll maybe just skip the whole gold thing alltogether.

Edit: Picture of last years trophy https://imgur.com/a/342xyLp

Inconsistent results

I am getting inconsistent results in the same piece of material within a few millimeters. These two gears are typical. I am using a Laser Tree 10w module (LT-80W-AA-Pro) These gears are cut into 1/8in (3.175mm) Baltic birch plywood, although, I have the same problem with every kind of plywood I have tried.

I am at my wits end. I have thrown a forest of trees away because of this problem.

Remove smell from cutting plywood?

I 3d printed this inline filter enclosure and put a hepa filter, and 4 layers of activated carbon filter pad inside. It removed all the smoke, but the smell is still strong. Is there a way to remove the smell as well? I'm exhausting it out my window, but i still smell it when I go outside, and I don't want any neighbors thinking something is burning down.

Fire Extinguisher

What would be the best type of fire extinguisher for a K40, or really any enclosed laser? I have heard there are ones that do less damage to the electronics when you use them. I'm pretty sure I have an ABC right now, but is there something better that would do less damage to the innards should a fire break out?

I have had a very small fire in my K40 before, due to user error, but I got it taken care of without using the fire extinguisher. It was TINY and didn't damage anything. I do worry about if it happens again, though. I never leave my laser alone and most always keep an eye on the cut while it is going. I sit right next to it the whole time. So, I'm not putting extra fire risk on myself. I just want to be prepared.

Laser cutter recommendations - EVA foam

I'm looking to cut EVA foam, thickness of 6mm or less. Ideally in one pass. I know nothing about laser cutters and the prices vary so much.

What laser cutter do I need? Any additional info would be very helpful. Ideally I'd like to stay under $500 if that's realistic.

I have a full shop with ventilation system for some other nasty fumes/VOCs so no worries there.

Hi everyone, Just sharing a small project that can also help use up some leftover plywood scraps. They're little fridge magnets. Made from 3 mm plywood with no finish.

Reviving and upgrading a Sculpfun s9 on a budget

I picked up a sculpfun s9 in a yard sale for 50Euro, and tried cutting with it but it was hopeless. So I decided to try some upgrades but obviously I don't want to pour money into this. I don't even really know what I'll use it for. But I have a few questions:

I've printed an air assist nozzle and I wondered if anyone has used one with a cheap 12v car tyre pump? It certainly pushes a stream of air out, but I wonder how strong it needs to be. If I put my finger under it I can feel the dimple caused by the air jet in my finger, but it's a smooth feeling not sharp or cutting. Is that strong enough? What does the air assist do? Just clear the smoke to allow the laser to focus it's energy? Or does it blow away ash?

I've fitted some microswitches and wired them up to the homing sensors. Took a bit of learning to get them wired correctly and working, and then added soft limits for the other end, so I have a repeatable reference if I start producing stuff.

It's only a 5w laser, so realistically what's the best I can hope this will do?

Final question - I'd like to get it running with wifi as there's no space near my computer. I'm looking at getting a esp3d set up on it, but how much work is installing fluidNC. And is the firmward downloadable in case I want to revert back? (I've searched but not found it). It has the esp board, but it's not the makerspace board; I don't know if it was changed, but it looks different to every picture of the v1 board I've seen online. different layout, and different component count. Any insgiths about this board variant welcome. And any experience with FluidNC also welcome.
