I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what the solution was.
I’m 53 and about six months ago I switched from cyclical HRT to continuous combined HRT, so I now take progesterone every day rather than part of the month.
Initially, the change suited me quite well because it significantly reduced the awful overactive bladder symptoms I used to get for the two weeks before every bleed. I had some spotting at first, but that settled after a few months.
However, now that I’m around six months in, I feel as though I have permanent PMT. I’m much more irritable, tearful and prone to shouting than I normally am, and I find myself taking things out on my husband and children.
I also often feel crampy and bloated, almost as though I need to have a period, but of course I don’t actually bleed.
I appreciate that I need to discuss this with my doctor, but I’m interested to know whether anyone else has experienced something similar after switching to continuous HRT. If so, what helped? Did you stick with it, adjust your medication, increase your oestrogen, or return to a cyclical regime?
I’d be very grateful to hear about other people’s experiences.
