Looking for study partners — robotics software engineering (ROS2, C++, SLAM)

Recent CS/BCA grad here, actively job hunting for robotics SWE roles. Been building a TurtleBot + ROS2 Humble project (Docker, React dashboard, Nav2, Gazebo sim) and want to go deeper on C++, Linux, and SLAM with people who are serious about it.

Thinking a small group (Discord/weekly calls) where we:

Work through ROS2 concepts and share resources

Review each other's projects/code

Mock interview each other for robotics SWE roles

Keep each other accountable

If you're learning robotics software (student, self-taught, or between jobs), drop a comment or DM. Open to remote/India-based folks especially, but anyone's welcome.

BCA grad (2026) seeking Robotics Software Engineering internship — ROS2/Nav2 experience, open to remote/hybrid

Hey r/robotics,

I'm a recent BCA graduate (2026) based in India, actively looking for an entry-level or intern role in robotics software engineering.

What I've built/worked on:

- TurtleBot project on ROS2 Humble (Raspberry Pi + Docker) — currently working on a custom Python node for USB camera streaming via OpenCV + web_video_server

- React-based robotics dashboard: live camera feed, lidar/map visualization, teleop controls, and fire detection integration

- Full-stack dev experience with Next.js (production work at a solar energy company)

- Comfortable with Linux, Docker, C++/Python, and currently deep-diving into computer vision & camera calibration

Looking for:

- Internship or entry-level SWE role focused on robotics (ROS2, navigation stack, perception, or embedded/controls)

- Open to remote, hybrid, or relocation within India

Happy to share my GitHub/portfolio in DMs. Would appreciate any leads, referrals, or advice on companies currently hiring for robotics software roles. Thanks!

Designing a Quadruped Robot – Looking for Actuator Recommendations

Hi everyone,

We're currently in the R&D phase of designing a quadruped robot and are evaluating actuator options for the leg joints.

We're looking for recommendations from engineers or researchers who have worked on legged robots.

Our main requirements are:

High torque-to-weight ratio

Compact integrated BLDC servo actuators

CAN or EtherCAT communication

Reliable performance for continuous operation

Good documentation and developer support

We've come across manufacturers such as CubeMars (T-Motor), MyActuator, and Unitree, but we'd love to hear about real-world experience. If you've built a quadruped or humanoid robot, which actuators did you choose, and what would you recommend or avoid?

If there are other manufacturers or open-source projects we should look at, we'd really appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

How Do Robotics Startups Get Their First Funding?

Hi everyone,

We're currently building a quadruped robot and are in the R&D phase. As we're planning the next steps, we're trying to understand how early-stage robotics startups typically raise funding.

I'd love to hear from founders or anyone with experience in robotics startups:

How did you fund your first prototype?

Did you bootstrap, raise angel investment, or apply for grants?

At what stage did investors start showing interest?

What do investors expect to see before investing in a robotics startup?

Are there any accelerator programs or government grants that you'd recommend?

Any advice, lessons learned, or resources would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Building an Industrial Surveillance Quadruped Robot in India – Looking for Feedback

Hi everyone!

We're a small robotics team in India working on an industrial surveillance quadruped robot. Our focus is autonomous navigation, remote monitoring, and operation in environments that may be difficult or unsafe for humans.

We'd love feedback from the community:

What features would industries find most useful?

Which sensors would you prioritize (LiDAR, thermal camera, gas sensors, etc.)?

What challenges do you think we'll face in real-world deployments?

We'd really appreciate your thoughts and suggestions. If anyone is working on similar robotics projects, I'd love to discuss and learn from your experience.

This version invites discussion instead of directly soliciting business, making it much more likely to comply with the subreddit rules.

🚀 Built a Web Dashboard to Control a ROS 2 Robot in Simulation

I've been learning ROS 2 by building projects instead of just following tutorials.

In this demo, I created a web dashboard that communicates with ROS 2 through rosbridge, allowing me to control the TurtleBot directly from the browser.

Features implemented:

🌐 Browser-based robot control

🔗 React frontend connected to ROS 2

📡 Real-time communication using rosbridge

🎮 Teleoperation from the web dashboard

🤖 Live control of the TurtleBot in simulation

This is one step toward my goal of building a complete robotics dashboard with:

Live camera streaming

LiDAR visualization

Interactive map

Autonomous navigation

Robot monitoring

I'd love your feedback! What features would you add to a robotics web dashboard?

Built my first ROS 2 autonomous robot from scratch 🚀

After months of learning robotics, I finally built my own mobile robot.

Tech stack:

ROS 2 Humble

LiDAR

Raspberry Pi

Differential drive

Autonomous navigation

I'm currently learning mapping, SLAM, Nav2, MoveIt, and robot software engineering. My goal is to become a robotics software engineer, so this is one of my first real hardware projects.

I'd love feedback from the community:

What would you improve next?

Any suggestions for sensors, software architecture, or autonomous features?

Thanks!
