Another potential employment scam

Guys do you remember the scam job weather-ai dot com that I posted a while back? There’s a potential new one. I’m not saying this one is, but is has some red flags.

  1. Vibecoded website in haste
  2. Spotty online presence. They picked a common company name so that Google would return something. However the LinkedIn is new and says privately owned.
  3. JD with “easy” requirements. I can’t believe I’m saying this but only legit companies ask for 10 years of Claude code experience.

I’ve not had time to dig deeper. I’m typing this on phone but you can check it out here. https://hatechintelligence.com

I’ve checked the team section and it’s all red flags non of the links are clickable.

I’ve archived the page in Wayback machine https://web.archive.org/web/20260704121809/https://hatechintelligence.com/ for future reference. If you have time please archive other pages too.

Stay sharp out there.

Job scams are now getting sophisticated

How it works

  • You see a job ad. Website
  • You apply because because you don’t want to be left with “what ifs”
  • They respond quickly with “We have been impressed by your background”. They give you a take home challenge to build on top of their API.
  • The API works. The website works. It even has Paystack. So you build.

The red flags

  • You submit your project and get an email three days later that your submission was impressive. You expect an interview right? No! they jump straight to the offer letter.
  • You check the logs on Cloudflare and you can see no requests hit your workers so no one reviewed your submissions.
  • The offer letter mentions the perks. A MacBook, co-working space, remote first etc. Mouth watering stuff.

How they get you

  • You sign the offer letter, they send you a link for background checks. verika dot org.
  • Verika dot org is clearly vibecoded.
  • The company said they’d pay for the background checks. But the link asks you to pay. The company says they will reimburse you. 🚩
  • Even if you don’t lose the KSh 2,500 for background cheque, you will have submitted some PIIs in a random vibe coded website. The background check is KYC style.

Current state.

  • The website has been taken down.
  • The LinkedIn page with over 1k followers is also gone.
  • They had PayStack which means they passed KYC.

Scary part

Someone went through the effort of making a functional SaaS in order to run a scam. LLMs are making this extremely easy. I’m sure they made some cash from some desperate job seekers who had started dreaming of a work issued MacBook and a Co-working space at Nairobi Garage.

Stay vigilant guys.
