What should I do?

I was involved in a pretty bad car accident today. While I was trying to make a left turn, someone two cars behind me attempted to pass on the left side in a two-way traffic lane. I honestly wish I was making this up 😂😂.

They sideswiped my car and took off without stopping. Fortunately, I have a very good dash cam, and I was able to capture the entire accident in 4K, including the other vehicle’s license plate. I called my insurance company, and they were able to pull all the information from the footage and the report. The car is registered under a female owner, but I’m not sure who was actually driving, since the windows were heavily tinted.

I called an ambulance because my neck and right knee were hurting. The police also arrived, and we filed a report. I was taken to the hospital, where I had a CT scan and am currently waiting for the results. I’m also going to see my doctor tomorrow because, a few hours after the accident, I started getting a headache, which I was told could be a symptom of a concussion.

At the hospital, I was advised that I will most likely need physical therapy. This is where things become confusing for me.

I am leaving the U.S. in two days for a month due to a family emergency that I cannot reschedule. I will not be back until late June.

I see two possible options:

First, I can start physical therapy where I am going, pay out of pocket, and bring all receipts and possibly notarized documentation as proof that I received treatment overseas, and then try to get reimbursed through the other driver’s insurance.

Second, I can avoid physical therapy while I am away, manage the pain as best as I can, and start therapy once I return. However, I am worried that if I wait a month, insurance might deny the claim, arguing that if physical therapy was necessary, I should have stayed in the U.S. They might also question whether the need for therapy is related to the accident or another issue.

I know this is a rare and complicated situation, but I would really appreciate any advice. If anyone has had a similar experience, I would also be grateful to hear from you.
