Found a 1942 WWII time-capsule in my 99-year-old Nan's paperwork. An original poem written by an unknown soldier - Windsor, UK. Apologies if posting in the wrong part of the forum, just felt it needed to be read by others.

We are D.R.'s of C. Company,
We will ride and fight,
Until England is free.

Our messages are urgent,
Our bikes are good,
And if God spares us,
When the war is won,
We will ride again
This time for fun.

But if guns roar,
And we are near,
It is time to say goodbye,
To everyone dear.

And if we die put on our graves,
A crash-hat with this sign engraved,
I have done my best,

For all to see,
And down to rest.
Jerry has laid me,

This last wish is all I ask,
Win the war, and then forget the past.

- I recently found this incredibly moving wartime poem sent inside a registered letter postmarked August 25, 1942. I posted the original piece and envelope elsewhere. Many thanks.

Found this envelope with this poem and recitals of several other poems and songs inside my place. Before I moved in my nan lived here and in truth I didn’t really know her. I’ve tried to edit out the names and addresses but my mother says she’s never heard of them and bizarrely they are not from around here, Windsor, UK

One of the items inside is quite a moving poem that appears to have been written by the sender himself about his unit, "C Company". He was a Dispatch Rider (D.R.)—the guys who rode motorcycles through blackouts to deliver urgent messages.

Sorry if I’ve done this wrong, don’t use the internet a lot but I thought it was worth sharing possibly. Cheers.

So as stated these were found in an attic in Windsor, fairly certain they are just your basic brass instrument but I can't seem to find anything that looks particularly similar. The two downward hook 'heads' are only open 3/4 an inch at maximum and the metal feels as though it was not supposed to be stretched open further than this. It's 9" long and 15" long including the 5" metal pole element which is straight but has very small, drill-like, twists at its very end. Any help appreciated, many thanks.
