Where can I buy portable air conditioner?

Help! I cannot stand these heatwaves and I rent a studio flat that gets super hot, hotter than outside. For the past month I have consistently been checking Currys, Argos, Amazon - all portable ac sold out or the ones in stock has delivery as late as September and even next year. Any suggestions?
p.s. i already have 3 fans that do not help at all, so please no fan suggestions as they are just circulating hot air inside:(

Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

Cheap day trips to nature spots or historical sites via public transport

Hello,

I’m moving to Coventry soon and my favourite things to do at the weekend involve being in nature as well as seeing historical sites - old houses, ruins, ancient sites, monuments etc.
I won’t have a huge budget for travel - I’m thinking £10-£15 return per person, and I dont drive, but am happy to take any form of public transportation, i dont mind it taking an hour or so to reach my destination either.

What are your favourite day trips via trains or buses?

Godiva

So disappointed in the turnout for today's Godiva. Main stage all day had 50 people at best, Amy Winehouse probably 100. Such a shame especially when loads of people moan about paying for the park event. You could tell the bands were so disappointed.

A few photos from Godiva Festival today.

Edited some of these in Lightroom. Stunned and impressed by the core strength of the lady performing the dance trapeze (and others as well)!

Good place to watch France World Cup games in Coventry?

Hi all, I’m spending a few days in Coventry with some friends for the Silverstone Grand Prix. We’re coming from France and would like to know if there were any nice places near the city centre to watch tonight’s France-Paraguay at 10pm! Thanks a lot

I've just been touching up the Middle Earth style fantasy map of Brum that I made a while ago. Thanks again to all those who contributed back then!

As if this was three years ago now. As one of the first urban maps I made, it's still one of my favourite maps so far.

I've just been doing some tidying up jobs on it and making some of the text more legible, as well as the imagery clearer. Again, thanks to all the commenters who suggested ideas and really helped bring this to life. I've just had a fresh batch made up here for anyone interested in one.

We're looking to arrange another one of these over the summer, and we're open to any venue suggestions from you all.

Happy to go back to Twisted Barrel or Elle's like before, but let us know if you would like to try somewhere else!

Little haul from the Salvation Army charity shop at Central Six. Men’s Shoes (real leather and in great condition): £5, the men’s trousers (GAP brand and also great condition - the angle makes them look odd but they’re not): £2. Get up there if you can, they have some great stuff.

P.s I’ve been away 5 years in South America but ventured into town the other day to visit the British Heart Foundation charity shops and WTF is going on with the prices? They had a pair of Topshop jeans for £40!?

Literally defeats the whole point of a charity shop…

Good idea to move to Coventry for a job?

Hi, I’ve been offered a job from Coventry University and wanted to check if it’s a good idea to move to Coventry for a job at the uni?

I’m unemployed from the last 6 months but not financially struggling in any way. I am desperate to find a job, but also I don’t want to end up in another situation of regret.

I currently live in Liverpool in a very nice flat. I want to understand what the situation is like in the midlands, if not Coventry, can I find a nice house in Warwick or something nearby?

The plan would be to buy a house & have a family in the next few years. Is Coventry a good place for this?

Just putting this out there

I don't usually post things like this, but I thought I'd put it out there. Hopefully something good comes from it. Job searching has been really tough lately. I've applied for so many roles, had multiple interviews, and yesterday I received several rejection emails. It's honestly been quite disheartening and has made me feel like I'm back to square one.

There was one role I was especially hopeful about. I was told I came very close, but they ended up going with another candidate. It was hard to hear, but I'm trying to stay positive. At this point, I'm open to any full-time opportunity. I'm very computer literate, a quick learner, hardworking, and reliable. My professional background is in digital design, but I'm more than happy to work in other roles as well. I'm eager to learn and willing to put in the effort.

If anyone in Coventry knows of any full-time opportunities or is hiring, I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know. Thank you so much.

Love this time of year for getting to see the wildlife flourish in Cov!

lol, 100% tongue in cheek and satirical.

I had to take a photo to zoom and see the little buggers but it's always a laugh.

Just arrived back after 5 years of living in Latin America and it shocks me to say that I seem to have returned to a better city than the one I grew up in.

The terror I had within me about having to come back for 6 months was bad, but it’s been 1 week and actually the city seems (to me at least) like a lot of development is happening, it seems somewhat cleaner, I don’t see the same scum lurking around everywhere I once did.

I could be wrong but it seems, at least to me, that some changes here have happened for the better.

What did I miss whilst I was away!?

Recommendation on RICS level 2 surveyor in coventry

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for reliable RICS Level 2 surveyor recommendations in the Coventry area.
Ideally, I need someone thorough, reasonably priced, and with a quick turnaround time for the report. Who did you use for your home purchase, and what was your experience with them?
Thanks in advance.

University of Warwick MSc student – Is Vita Student Copper Towers the best studio accommodation? (Need honest opinions)

Hi everyone,

I’m an international student from India and I’ll be starting my MSc in Computer Science at the University of Warwick this September. I’m looking for a private studio with my own kitchen and bathroom (I don’t want a shared flat), and after a lot of research I’m leaning towards Vita Student Copper Towers.

Before I book, I’d really appreciate honest opinions from people who have lived there or know someone who has.

A few things about my situation:

  • I’ll be studying at the University of Warwick, so I’ll be commuting to campus most weekdays.
  • My girlfriend will be studying in London, so I’ll probably travel to London quite often, and she’ll likely visit me once every 2–3 weeks and stay for 2 nights (occasionally 3 nights).
  • My priorities are safety, a modern building, good management, fast Wi-Fi, cleanliness, and a comfortable place to live for a year.
  • I don’t mind paying more if the experience is genuinely worth it.

I’d love to know:

  1. Is Copper Towers worth the premium price?
  2. How is the commute to Warwick in reality? Does it get tiring?
  3. How safe is the area during the day and at night?
  4. Is the building itself well managed? How are maintenance and reception staff?
  5. How’s the noise level? Can you hear traffic or neighbours?
  6. How reliable is the Wi-Fi?
  7. Are the social events actually good, or do people rarely attend?
  8. If you’ve stayed in a studio, did it feel spacious enough?
  9. Has anyone had experience with overnight guests? Is having my girlfriend stay for 2 nights every couple of weeks (occasionally 3 nights) generally okay, or is management strict about the guest policy?
  10. Looking back, would you choose Copper Towers again, or would you pick somewhere else like Vita Cannon Park, CODE Fairfax Street, or iQ Weaver Place?

I’m looking for completely honest feedback—both the good and the bad. If there are any hidden issues or things you wish you knew before moving in, I’d really appreciate hearing about them.
