Too bad I'm not in Utah, but the Golden Days Market thing sounds like it'll be pretty cool
How's the Gilstone project going now?
Just curious if there's any updates or anything
California and Utah new GB1 designs
really looking forward to California. Goldbacks really will be coast to coast lol
Some Newer Goldbacks Have Mintages Nearly 8× Lower Than Their 2019 Counterparts
We created a new interactive Goldback mintage chart here:
https://defythegrid.com/2019-present-goldback-mintage-chart/
The chart organizes mintages by year, series, and denomination. Each denomination is color coordinated according to its relative rarity, and every column can be sorted to make lower-mintage releases much easier to spot.
Some of the results are honestly shocking.
The 2025 Nevada 5 Goldback had a mintage of just 3,200, compared with 24,697 for the original 2019 Utah 5—nearly 8× fewer.
Several 2025 25 Goldbacks had mintages of only 640, compared with 3,831 for the 2019 Utah 25—almost 6× fewer.
The 2025 Nevada 50 also came in at just 640, versus 2,607 for the 2019 Utah 50—more than 4× fewer.
Even among the 1 Goldbacks, the 2023 South Dakota Alpha 1 had a mintage of 17,296, compared with 90,546 for the original 2019 Utah 1.
It also seems that each new state release creates a surge of excitement, with demand for those new denominations sometimes outpacing current-year issues from established states. That raises some interesting questions - what are your questions after viewing the data?
We’ve also expanded the selection of back-dated Goldbacks in our Collector’s Corner for anyone trying to fill gaps in a collection. Prices are still relatively low compared to this data.
What surprised you most after looking through the data?
Shoutout to Defythegrid for caring about their trusted customers
I'm sure they get a lot of scammers and chargebacks and who knows what else just trying to make precious metals more accessible online. I think this is a good call, putting limits on users they don't really know yet, and making exceptional service for longtime repeat customers. It probably is a fairly common retail/business strategy, but I still appreciate knowing they're careful but still accommodating like that.
1976 and 2026 halfdollars side by side
It's so weird seeing a new halfdollar design that's not JFK, isn't an old silver one like Franklins or Walking Liberty, and is released for circulation. I got some rolls of them at the bank the other day and I think they're pretty cool. Torch went from the dime to the halfdollar, and eagle from the halfdollar to the dime lol.
And they say Goldbacks have ridiculous premiums.
For context, Goldbacks typically cost about 2× spot price, and usually their premium sticks when you use them. It's a bit high compared to traditional bullion, but this Liberty Bell gold coin from the US mint is nearly 4 to 5 times the spot price, and it's only half an ozt not even as fractional as Goldbacks are, and isn't even serial numbered (beside maybe on the CoA's).
I just find it hard to understand who this is for except someone who just wants to blow an extra multiple thousands of dollars on a coin that's not even shaped like a real coin. The US mint has been doing a lot of dumb stuff lately and just seems to be run by greed now.
Anyone else save serial numbers they like?
69350 and 96969 I figured I gotta save. I did have 55555 but I already sold it
This was my humble stack about 4 years ago. I've gotten a lot more since then, but it's nice just looking back.
Sold some Goldbacks at a show today with a buddy who was selling coins there. I bought some silver too and a pressed penny. Gave away a few of the Quarter Idahos too
Not a lot of sales today but I had probably 1 or 2 dozen people seem interested atleast. It was a small show though.
Since the 100-Goldback notes are being discontinued, will the 50's of Florida, Oklahoma, Arizona, and Idaho be redesigned to have lady Libertas or kept the same?
reddit.comA ¼grain gold bar is so tiny I almost lost it just trying to take comparison pictures
For reference, ¼grain is about 16.2mg, while 1/2000ozt is about 15.55mg. The tiny bars typically come in packaging anyway, but for Goldbacks the lamination is basically the packaging already.
I just find it comical to think some people genuinely trade bare gold this small with so few security features, especially if you don't have equipment to test it. Goldbacks definitely make the tiny gold amount way more impressive and usable in my opinion.
The 1/100ozt bar is mostly fine, but even that is kinda ridiculously small for $40 to $50 in gold melt (it has varied a lot this year).
I would hate to have to carry around these tiny bars for making actual purchases. I'd much rather have Goldbacks on me.
Has anyone seen any 2026 Goldbacks yet for Florida or other states besides DC commemorative and Idaho? I'm interested to see the updated UV art on the fronts now. The DC fireworks is cool.
reddit.comI saw these at the flea market and just thought they were so cool looking I had to buy them. Can't hardly make out the date on the Florin though but the dragon just stands out to me.
This was part of my pay from the internship I did with Goldback Inc awhile ago. Not too shabby. I really do appreciate the opportunity they gave me. Now you, too have a small opportunity as well👀
To celebrate, I'm giving away up to 16x total of these Idaho Goldback Quarters to whoever I feel best deserves it. Keep up the good quality discussions. Subject to staff discretion. Giveaway ends 2026-04-30.
Prizes will be sent out when they get sent out, expect a couple weeks atleast, and these will be sent by lettermail because I genuinely don't feel like paying extra for tracking.
You must be active in this group to qualify, as well as show effort in the community. How many you might win depends on your contributions and who else is being considered, but technically could be anywhere from 1 to all 16 of these GB¼'s, if you are selected, based on who all I chuse.
P.O. box address prefered, must be 18yo+ to qualify. Shipping within continental United States of America.
The winner announcement will be made sometime around early May. To claim your prize, message me (u/ColeWest256) directly. Prizes that aren't claimed within 16 days of the announcement are forfeited and may be distributed to other winners or the next person.
Do not accept any messages from anyone asking you to pay shipping upfront for your free prize. Free means free. If it costed too much to send it, it'd be pointless to do so in the first place. This is just meant to be fun, but do always proceed with caution.
That said, thank you guys for being here. Keep on stackin' my fellow Goldbacker friends. Good luck to you all :þ
