What’s your take on junk silver?
What’s your take on junk silver? Is it actually junk? Is it worth stacking even though LCS will pay less for it? Is it worth stacking even?

Hi All,
Sincerely appreciate any advice. I was told by a family member this was purchased in Mexico probably in the 70s, or 80s and was claimed to be silver. It is stamped on the leg with "Zanfeld Plata 999". It weights 2666 grams. I have never owned silver and never had to convert it to a dollar amount. It seems silver bars are the easiest way to exchange silver for tender from my limited research.
So when it comes to items do you have to go to Pawn/Coin places? Do you drive to refineries? Anyone felt comfortable shipping an item that might be valued high to a refinery? I am also under the impression you would get less of a cash conversion with an item to be melted versus having a silver bar? How accurate are those XRF machines and the best place to find one to be used? Lastly, in short, if this was yours what would you do with it to reasonably get it converted to cash?
Thanks so much for any thoughts! Feels like the Knights Tale where they had to break off their trophies for winning jousting tournaments to convert to tender lol.
I found a quarter the other day and it was from 1949, a half dollar from 1962 as well. I bought the silver bar from Costco. Hopefully I can get more of the silver coins or anything. Any tips you recommend doing or places you go to?
This is the 2018 Cameroon 2 oz Silver antique coin from the "World Cultures" series, specifically featuring the Kapala design.
This coin was minted by the Mint of Poland. Only 500 were ever minted. This is one of those coins I don't plan to ever part with.

Is it better to buy an ounce at a time than five ounce or ten ounce bars? I like the thought of a big bar of silver but my coworker is saying it’d be better financially to just buy in single ounces.
Bought these at the flea market for 20$ each online it did say the marking translates to 99.9 pure silver
If so, did you get the generic buffalo/Indian rounds? Or did you get a different generic round?
Got this Narrondass Manordass 5g 999 silver bar in assay card recently. Paid $25 total for it. Curious if yall think it’s a decent deal or not. I know some of you generic bullion guys are going to say no but curious what the guys that collect more premium / collectible items think. Just curious. It’s a nothing amount for me so I’m not worried about the cost…. Just like the look of the bar and assay plus she’s an old, long time company from India
I've seen so many posts where people are desperate for cash and need to sell part/all of their collection of PMs. Would you buy gold or silver without first having an emergency cash account in place?
Hello all!
I bought a hodge-podge assortment of a Reed & Barton stainless set (apologies if I'm posting in the wrong community!) from an estate sale, and I am having the hardest time identifying the pattern so I can finish out the set.
On the back of each piece is printed "Reed & Barton 18/10 Stainless China." The pattern is generally floral with an unusual lily-like flower with tendrils in the middle of the base of the handle. I have scoured the internet to identify the name of the pattern to no avail, so I thought I'd turn to the experts.
Does anyone recognize this Reed & Barton pattern? My sincere gratitude to anyone who can help!
Hoping someone can help, I’m out thrifting and saw something with these stamps. Do they indicate anything about this potentially being silver? Thank you so much for any input
Ive been stacking for a few years now and i love silver. From reading all the posts I have a few observations about stacking:
1: silver is a great way to start stacking
2: there is really a lot of silver out there. So much that dealers are jammed with it and refiners at times wont take it.
3: families that inherit silver seem to sell it right away.
4: stackers with many kilos often look to convert it to gold
4: gold on the other hand seems genuinely rare and families hold on to for generations
5: platinum is rarer than hen’s teeth
No conclusions here or recommendations, just observations. Carry on.
Hi all, I’m curious as to how many stackers here stack based on weight?
Where I’m from, it doesn’t make much sense to stack 1oz bars/coins imho. The average bullion charges a spread of ~10-15% on 1oz coins/bars, and also an additional “price premium” of ~10-15%. That is a total of maybe 20-30% above spot for each 1oz coin/bar. The premium and spread gets even higher if you are searching for a specific year, or design etc.
Whereas for a 1kg bullion bar, we are looking at maybe ~6-9% for spread and an additional ~6-9% “price premium”.
How does the fee structure works in your country? Does anybody actually get 1oz coins/bars at or close to spot?
Hey folks,
Wondering where my fellow Canadians buy their silver? More specifically in Ontario. Currently buying everything through TD precious metals but looking for potentially better websites closer to spot.
Cheers!
A few quick questions.
Are loose handled ASE worth less?
If you buy a tube of 20 ASE should you not open it or touch them?
If you dont open them how do you verify that you actually got silver?
If I walked into a LCS and I asked to see a silver eagle , then the man grabbed a loose coin out of the display case with his bare hands making contact with the metal does the coin no longer carry the "premium"?
New to buying here and trying not to make any rookie mistakes. Thanks for the help and sorry if these questions sound dumb. I searched google and didnt feel like i found the truth. I have ordered some books on silver and coins to read but they have not arrived yet.
10ish oz of fine, and some pocket change. The Wilmington trust is my latest silver pick-up, and was a literal barn find. Of all the places in the world I bought this coin out of a barn in Delaware from a super cool older guy. He looked up the spot price and sold it to me for $70,aI buck under spot at the time. Turns out it lists for $260ish on APMEX, and one with similar toning is being listed for $1000 on eBay. That’s craziness.
The gold is the monument metals random 1/4 oz sovereigns deal. It’s my first gold and my only requirement was 9999 fine gold. I bought the most recent dip and I’m happy with my randoms minus the Harp on the seal of the Guinea.
I never thought I'd own much of any precious metals. Never saw it in real life till I was in my 30s, but now it's been a helpful motivation as I'm paying off my debts. All bought at spot price besides the libertad, and the Olympics massacre. Little celebrations as I'm spending money on something that can be exchanged for cash even if I smash it with a hammer, and not paying interest on debts. From 5 countries, 3 continents, 2 proof, 1 sealed.
New to stacking.
The more I read about silver coins the more I like the 1 oz coins. ASE, maple leaf etc.
The 1 oz size just seems so practical.
My Plan is to just keep buying silver regardless of the price.
I time other investments. I personally have always really liked metal and am very excited to start this adventure
