Looking to prune back this rhododendron, probably to just below the gutter and a bit farther away from the walkway. Any tips or recommended resources before I start?

Have had these feeders out for about a week now and still haven’t seen a single bird. Is it too soon, or are they maybe the wrong color? I’ve noticed most people seem to use red feeders. I live in Portland, Oregon. Is it already too late in the season for the birds?
