Apply for position or no?
Hello everyone,
I need some advice, I’m currently a RN on a postpartum unit. I typically only work 2 evening shifts a week, Saturday and Sunday. I recently got another casual position as a seasonal immunizer which will last until March. I recently saw a listing for a 0.42 FTE position on the postpartum unit I work on, I emailed the manager and got the schedule. In a 4 week rotation I will be working 2 evening shifts and 6 day shifts in postpartum. Up until I saw this listing, I was planning on doing 2 days a week in postpartum and 3 days a week as the immunizer. Do I apply for this listing or not? Do I stay casual for both and look for listings when I’m done the immunizer job in march?
Some things to keep in mind
- I HATE day shift, I only do evenings because I am not a morning person. I never pick up day shifts. Only evenings.
- The hospital where I work postpartum is 30 minutes from my house
- If I take the line, every 3 weeks I will potentially work 6 days in a row (schedule isn’t confirmed yet but I’m planning ahead)
- most lines are days/nights, I’m glad this one has evenings because that’s my shift of preference
- being a casual is nice so I can take time off wheneever I want, with the line, the process becomes more complicated
- benefits would be nice
- UNA provides a 2% match for my RRSP (it won’t be a lot every month but at least I’ll start that process)
- I would only do both jobs until march
- I don’t mind being casual, I will look for listings after march for postpartum but I don’t like day shift at all.
- I am financially okay with working casual
