Hi all,

I posted a thread about the squealing noise I was hearing a couple days ago.

Took the car to a reputable brake shop for an inspection and they told me that the front two rotors are glazed. They said I can keep driving the car since I have no problems braking or any vibrations of that matter. However, I’m not too knowledgeable about brake work on this car. They quoted me $890 for new rotors and brake pads that come with limited warranties on the rotors and lifetime on the brake pads if I were to go that route of replacing.

Is that a reasonable price for getting this issue fixed? Or is it better to get all this done at the dealership and probably pay the bigger repair cost?

My concern is the quality of materials the brake shop would be using and if it could cause more problems in the future since they would be using OEM like parts.

FYI: I have a 25 Elantra N with 17k miles. Front brake pads are at 6mm and rear are at 7mm.

Thank you for reading.

Hi everyone,

Recently I’ve been hearing a pretty obvious squealing/squeaky noise in the passenger front side. I’ve noticed that it tends to appear when turning my wheel slightly to the right to about halfway to the right (in general just turning to the right). That’s when I hear the noise very much. Also, when applying light brake pressure, it kicks in that squealing/squeaky noise but I know that the performance brakes cause that sound in general. However, that sound will constantly keep going when driving after letting off the brakes. It’s so random and I can’t really pinpoint it besides hearing it in the passenger front and hearing it mostly when the wheel is turned to the right.

A couple things to note which could be relevant to this. The right side of my suspension squeaks very obviously when going over speed bumps but only in that situation. My alignment veers to the right but it’s not TOO bad and the steering wheel sits almost centered.

My guesses are something to do with the right side suspension causing the sound to continue when driving with no brakes applied? There’s something stuck in the brakes itself (rocks) since the sound occurs while and after braking?

I am not opposed to taking it to the dealer but they mentioned they will have to charge me for a diagnostic and I don’t want to hear them just tell me that they couldn’t find the sound or the source of it and waste a couple hundred bucks.

I’ve attached some videos of the sound but play it at a decently high volume since the wind noise is also pretty loud.
