Scammers of 'Cambridge Computers'

Posting this mainly so others can avoid wasting their money.

I took my Galaxy S21 to Cambridge Computers on Fitzroy street for a battery replacement because the original battery was losing charge very quickly.

I was told they would order an original Samsung battery, which would arrive within a couple of days. Once they said it had arrived, I returned to the shop. They took the phone and asked me to come back in an hour.

When I collected the phone, however, it immediately started overheating. I was told this was a normal reaction after a battery replacement. Within a couple of days, things got worse, the battery had swollen, would not charge beyond 65%, overheated very quickly, and the phone would die even while showing around 30% battery remaining.

Also, after replacement, I asked for my old battery back. They handed me a battery labelled EB-BG990ABY.

It looked legitimate at the first glance but there was just one problem which I discovered later in the process: EB-BG990ABY is the battery for the Galaxy S21 FE. My phone is the regular Galaxy S21, which uses EB-BG991ABY. They have different capacities and dimensions, and the S21 FE battery physically does not fit the regular S21.

So whatever battery they gave me, it was not the battery that had been removed from my phone.

I eventually took the phone to another repair shop, where the battery was properly replaced. They charged me £20 less than Cambridge Computers. According to the technician there, it appeared that Cambridge Computers had not actually replaced the battery at all, but had simply recharged the original one.

When I went back to Cambridge Computers and asked for a refund, I was told that the manager who could deal with the matter was not there (of course). Instead, a member of staff named Abdullah gave me an email address where I could file my refund request. Spolier: the given email address does not exist.

I am posting this simply as a warning to anyone looking for a phone repair service in Cambridge. Avoid Cambridge Computers unless you want to find yourself in a similar position.

Also, as a general advice, If you have dealt with fraudlent businesses in Cambridge, consider reporting it to Trading Standards. It is a shame, really, that fraudsters like Cambridge Computers can provide sh*t service so freely.
