I was getting into a discussion with someone who just got hired at *insert prominent surveillance/defense company* and they responded back at my statement that it was an evil company with "idt anyone would probably say epic is evil, I think they probably do more good than harm? maybe? but they aren’t perfect, brief search shows they’ve have suits against them for monopolization and lock-in tactics of electronic health records meaning higher health insurance costs, they’ve had data privacy lawsuits, are anti patient data access, and a big private power in a public health space"

Why does this seem to be the common public opinion of Epic, especially with being "anti-patient data access"?

Does Epic really play a part in higher health insurance? Or have I just drunk too much of the Epic kool-aid?
