5/17 Meeting Minutes
Hello lovely people of Humboldt Bay Witches!
Thank you so much for your patience getting these notes; yesterday was a bit of a tough one, and I meant to post them sooner.
I’m deeply grateful to everyone who attended, and I’m sorry to those who couldn’t make it. If there are specific timing or location needs that would help you join future gatherings, please let us know. We want this community to be as accessible and welcoming as possible.
For next month, we’re planning to hold the open meet south of Eureka to better include our Southern Humboldt folks, since we haven’t hosted anything down there yet. I’m not super familiar with good public spaces in that area, so if you have suggestions, please share!
Below are the main takeaways I wrote down from our meet-up < 3
Paranormal Interest
There’s interest in paranormal, ghost, and haunting-related topics and I’m thrilled about it since it's been a long time interest of mine for sure as well!
Some ideas that came up:
- Does anyone have experience with ghost towns, haunted tours, or similar adventures?
- We could organize group trips to cemeteries or other spirit-dense locations.
- We can share safety, cleansing, and protection practices- both for those seeking spirit contact and those who prefer to avoid it.
- A #ghosts and #paranormalsupportline channel will be added to the Discord under text channels.
Book Club Idea
One of our approved Discord members suggested the amazing idea of a casual occult book club!
- Moss & Bones have tons of excellent book recommendations.
- A #bookclub channel will be created.
- We could meet monthly at a café or park to discuss, even if not everyone finishes the book.
- Participation would be totally optional for approved Discord members.
- First book ideas: The Witch Womb, The Occult, or The Occult 2.
Humboldt Bay Witches Zine
We have a member with zine expertise who’s excited to help us create a collaborative community zine- if there’s enough interest!
- Anyone can submit artwork, spells, poetry, articles, etc.
- Posts will go up soon to gauge interest and gather submissions.
- We could host a crafting day (or two!) to create pages and assemble physical copies together.
Local Grimoire
This idea has been around since our first meet, and there’s still a lot of enthusiasm.
The vision: a collectively built grimoire centered on the Humboldt Bay region- local sacred sites, foraging notes, seasonal tips, history, area-specific spells, and more.
- The #localgrimoire channel already exists under text channels.
- Any approved member can contribute.
- Once we feel it’s complete, we could gather in person to bind the finished grimoire.
Workshops
Workshops remain a big interest! If you want to learn something, or especially if you want to teach something, please share.
Potential workshop topics based on member expertise:
- Candle making
- Astrology
- Tarot
- Foraging
Other Notes
- I’m personally interested in Vajrayana, meditation, and shadow work—if others share these interests, they’d make great discussion topics or one-off events.
- We see this group as a knowledge base with many intersecting paths, supporting, connecting, educating, and empowering local witches.
- I’d also love to explore dreamwork. A few members mentioned interest or experience, so maybe we can form a study group.
- Our next public celebration will be a Midsummer Celebration at Clam Beach, similar to Beltane. A super cool knowledgeable member has offered to lead an in-depth circle ceremony for us.
Final Takeaway
This was a truly wonderful meeting, and I’m so grateful to everyone who showed up and contributed to the energy and ideas. If there’s anything we can adjust to help you attend next time, please let us know.
A reminder: after attending an in-person event, you can be verified in the Discord server as long as you agree to uphold our community creed and server rules. Maintaining a safe, kind, and respectful environment is essential. If someone agrees to our values but then uses unkind or hostile communication without attempts at nonviolent problem-solving, they will be removed to protect the community.
Thank you to everyone who consistently shows up with kindness, curiosity, patience, and dedication. I appreciate you all so much, and I’m excited to see how our community grows this summer.
Blessed be,
Analisa, mod & founding member
