Hear me out I was looking at the Naked and the Dead comic from 2017 and noticed that the image of Spy holding Scout (his son) looks remarkably similar to the Michelangelo Sculpture Madonna della Pietà that depicts the Virgin Mary holding the deceased Christ (her son) after his crucifixion. Immediately following this frame in the comic Scout meets God who says 'I wish you were my son' before resurrecting him. Makes you think 🤔 or maybe he was just hallucinating.
