I have a 2016 All City Cosmic Stallion, but the left brifter became damaged and needed replacement. Instead of repairing that I replaced it with new Shimano 12 speed 105 mechanical.

When I had the bike rebuilt with that group set the mechanic said my rear hub was damaged, and the part in the hub that was damaged is not repairable or replaceable. It was a custom all city hub and I confirmed from other locations that said part no longer was made. I liked the rim because it matches the front rim, so I opted to get it rebuilt with DT Swiss 350.

But now because of vagaries of the frame and the hub, when the axle is screwed in tight it causes the chain to rub against the frame. The mechanic said this is because the flange on the hub is thicker, so the freehub body doesn’t sit as deeply into the freehub, which means the cassette and chain doesn’t have the clearance any more not to rub against the frame.

Does anyone have a suggestion beyond getting the freehub body machined so that its flange is thinner allowing it to fit? without rubbing? What about getting a longer axle and a spacer to spread the rear of the bike further apart?
