Metaspeed Tokyo Sky cooked my calves. Stick or switch for race?

Hey everyone. I trained most of this block in the ASICS Megablast and bought the Metaspeed Sky for race day because they felt way more responsive.

I already had a slight calf niggle before trialling, but after a 13 mile test-run in the Metaspeeds my lower calf/upper Achilles got significantly more irritated. Clearly the more aggressive geometry isn’t helping. Both calves were ‘stiff’ the next day but the niggly one was pretty angry. I’ve run twice since (back in the megablasts and it’s irritated so I’m using my last week of my taper to just let it chill)

Now I’m tossing up between:

  1. Racing in the Metaspeeds anyway and hoping taper + rehab settles it
  2. Racing in the Megablasts instead- safer/familiar but definitely less fast and I’m really trying to squeeze out a PR
  3. Panic buy a more stable higher drop fast shoe days before the marathon (least keen on this option for more than one reason but would be very on brand for me)

High cadence forefoot/midfoot striker if relevant. F/136lbs. Hoping for a 3:15. Marathon no. 7

Anyone had similar issues specifically with the Metaspeed Sky? What to do?? Is this just more maranoia?? 🫪🫪🫪
