Need help with my online dating situation (a sort of third person perspective on this)

I’m a fourth year undergrad student and I matched with this guy on Hinge (second year post grad student in a different university from mine) and this is our story so far:

He broke up with his ex this February (2026) who he dated for two years.

Then he joined Hinge and matched with me in March (2026). We’ve been hitting it off well. Calls at night almost everyday that last for minimum an hour if not more. We met in April and had three weeks in the same city (we go to different universities) so we met as much as possible in person and stayed over for the night twice. I had to come home May 2nd and now we FaceTime and watch movies online.

He tells me to stay on call and does that “just five more minutes” and all that. Texts me almost throughout the day. And if I don’t reply to stuff he asks me if I’m mad. He even talks about “our home” in hypothetical situations and stuff and I’m so confused

NOW THE PROBLEM IS he also said that HE IS NOT READY TO DATE AND IS NOT GONNA DATE FOR A YEAR.

So he basically wants us to go on dates, be on calls, stay over for nights, spam me with reels, basically do everything people in relationships do - but without commitment for a year. Even then there might not be a chance of us being together.

He also keeps trashing his ex which tbh some stuff I understand but my lord he talks about his relationship as if it’s ruined his ability to be in another relationship and it frustrates me.

Am I overthinking this or do I need to cut things off with this guy? I really like him, but if there’s no guaranteed commitment then what’s the point?
