Who is Katy Ho, really?

People seem irrationally pleased that Katy Ho will be acting pres. after the debacle of Bennings. I just want to say, not so fast, compadres.

Almost exactly three years ago (Teacher Appreciation Week btw!), the ESOL program had an abusive and incompetent Dean. They were dealing with it through the usual escalating process of documentation, grievances, etc. Katy Ho evaded multiple emailed requests for a meeting, so a few folks from the program walked over to her office at Sylvania.

Katy Ho first said she was too busy to talk for even a few minutes. Then she said the instructors should sit in a waiting area. Then she called Public Safety to remove them.

So ... people who've worked, collectively, many decades for the college, who had an untenable working situation, "had the cops called" on them for ... calmly walking into Katy's office.

There's more to say, and after almost 30 years at PCC I could say it, but I think that anecdote sums it up best. Sorry, but that's Katy Ho in a nutshell. Her vision of PCC is Bennings' and Penson's. It's a vision with Community as a name, but nothing more. We need a different Board AND big changes in upper management too.
