Instructor not responding to emails

Hi yall. I’m just wondering if it’s normal/common for some instructors to not respond to their students emails? I was told to always email instructors if I am unable to attend their class due to illness, but for some reason this instructor hasn’t responded. Obviously, informing instructors over email is pretty much base line for most PCC instructors. But it just feels kind of awkward like I’m talking to a brick wall when they don’t respond. Does lack of response mean they acknowledge it?

Bio 231- full for summer

Welp. It’s happened. I register today and the classes I can take (I work full time) are either full (+waitlist) or almost full (a couple waitlist spots left). Two questions-

  1. What are the chances of a class being added
  2. Who do I reach out to raise a fuss?
  3. What alternatives are there to get this class done this summer so I can be on track to register for 232 in the fall? Any ideas (helpful) are welcome.

Transfer students

hi.

im transferring to my big girl university next spring. im excited. i am planning to go out of state for this. i do not feel satisfied living here anymore and i want better options for schooling. im starting applications this fall and winter.

im planning on applying to UNC, UGA, NYU, and a few other colleges on the east coast and in the south. does anyone have any experience with transferring and how exactly all of it works? i need more advice but my advisor kind of told me not to apply to schools that "arent easily transferrable" which that is the least of my concerns to have it easily transferrable, i have very high hopes for myself and my future and to be quite frank, i do not like an easy way out and i prefer to be challenged, even if it makes me crazy. im a very stubborn woman.

but again. does anyone have any pointers or any advice for a stubborn woman who wants to transfer out of state to a school that is more prestigious?!?!

What’s the dumbest, laziest class you have ever taken?

I have only 12 credits left at my current university, so I’m going to finish those off at PCC. My major requirements are all fulfilled, so these can be 12 credits from literally any class.

I’m tired af of school so I plan on just taking 3 fun, chill classes where I don’t have to do shit. I just want my degree y’know?

What are some classes I can take for credits where you have to do fuck all?

Summer 26 Financial Aid

Anyone know how financial aid for the summer term works? Right now it looks like my out of pocket costs for the summer term will be around $2,500. Are there any additional FAFSA documents I need to fill out and submit to help with those costs?

Dates correct?

Are the dates for the classes correct? I've never actually paid attention but I accidentally booked a trip the week of the 26th and am seeing some classes end the week before. Before I register, I'd like to register for the classes with earlier ending dates. Just wondering if the dates are accurate?? Lol

Is taking BI232 over the summer a bad idea?

I know that it’s a lot of content crammed into 8 weeks but I’d like to hear anyones experience taking A&P over the summer.

I’m currently in 231 and doing well so far (hope I’m not jinxing myself) and I work full time.

Summer A&P 231

Summer term will be my second term attending PCC. For those that have taken A&P, which class schedule would you recommend?

I see some professors offer different class options.

Lecture twice a week and lab twice a week.

Lecture twice a week and lab once a week.

Lecture once a week and lab once a week.

Online/ in person lecture and lab twice a week.

Would the workload be the same for all class types?

Summer

Hey everyone! This summer I need to take either a humanities or social science course. I’m on the prevet track so ~hopefully~ something that isn’t just history. I’ve already done psy201 and soc228

I’m looking for student recs on interesting (and hopefully relevant to my track) classes that they’ve taken and some more info about them than the descriptions online!!

I’ve been kinda looking at ath234, he251, he264, and hum221 since they’re gonna be available this summer but if there’s anything else lmk!!

Who is Katy Ho, really?

People seem irrationally pleased that Katy Ho will be acting pres. after the debacle of Bennings. I just want to say, not so fast, compadres.

Almost exactly three years ago (Teacher Appreciation Week btw!), the ESOL program had an abusive and incompetent Dean. They were dealing with it through the usual escalating process of documentation, grievances, etc. Katy Ho evaded multiple emailed requests for a meeting, so a few folks from the program walked over to her office at Sylvania.

Katy Ho first said she was too busy to talk for even a few minutes. Then she said the instructors should sit in a waiting area. Then she called Public Safety to remove them.

So ... people who've worked, collectively, many decades for the college, who had an untenable working situation, "had the cops called" on them for ... calmly walking into Katy's office.

There's more to say, and after almost 30 years at PCC I could say it, but I think that anecdote sums it up best. Sorry, but that's Katy Ho in a nutshell. Her vision of PCC is Bennings' and Penson's. It's a vision with Community as a name, but nothing more. We need a different Board AND big changes in upper management too.

Nursing Program

Hoping to connect with any current nursing students. I was offered a seat for Fall and want to know if you like the program! I was accepted into another school as well so i’m debating between the two! Thanks <3

Vector Job Post on Campus

Has anyone had an interview with Vector? It was paper job post on a campus bulletin. It’s a 1099, so it’s probably not all that serious.

I just wanted to see if anyone had experience with them.

Thanks!

Dr. Adrien Bennings' Golden Parachute

According to the Portland Mercury (PCC President Resigns Ending Turbulent Stint), the severance package includes the following (among other things):

"It also offers Bennings a parachute for future job opportunities, including a non-disparagement clause, a positive response from the human resources office, and a letter of reference from Penson."

Also, it includes:

"The board approved a severance package in a 6-1 vote Thursday evening. Bennings will take a leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act beginning Friday, and her final day will be June 30. Her final check will include a full $25,000 annual retention bonus, a severance payment totaling $261,000, all remaining vacation pay, and nine months of health insurance benefits."
