How are non-US companies receiving USD payments from American clients these days?
We’re based outside the US but recently a much bigger percentage of our customers have started asking to pay directly in USD instead of converting into local currency first . At first we thought this would actually simplify things, but operationally it’s been more frustrating than expected . Some payments arrive pretty quickly while others seem to disappear into the banking system for several extra business days with almost no visibility in between. We’ve also had a few situations where clients got confused by intermediary bank details or asked why the transfer instructions looked more complicated than domestic US payments . Then there’s the conversion side afterward. Depending on timing, fees and exchange rates, the final received amount sometimes ends up noticeably different from what we estimated internally
One customer even assumed they could send the payment like a normal domestic ACH transfer and got confused when international wire information was required instead . Feels like receiving USD internationally should be more straightforward by now, but maybe we’re just still using an outdated setup . Curious what other companies outside the US are doing for this currently .
