PC shutting down after random intervals after installing new cooler
Hey guys, I picked up a bundle from microcenter for the ASUS TUF Gaming B850-E Wifi motherboard, GSkill 16x2GB ddr5 6000mhz ram and r7 9850x3d CPU. I installed all the new parts into my system and it ran fine for about a week without any major problems.
I noticed that the CPU temps were getting high even during idle, so I picked up a thermaltake peerless assassin 120 to keep my temps low. After installing the new fan, my PC immediately began completely powering off at random times, regardless of load or temperature. Sometimes its after 30 minutes, sometimes a few hours, my longest time without a shutdown is a bit under 2 days. The new fan keeps the CPU under 40-55C during idle, and under 80C during high load (from what I can tell), so I don't think its a cooling problem. Also, event viewer doesn't display any errors or anything outside of a kernel power event (41) which basically just tells me my PC shut off unexpectedly. This will happen either during gaming or just while the PC idles with my browser open while i step away.
Here's what I've tried so far:
- Replacing the new fan with my old one (still shuts down)
- Disabling EXPO and any OC settings in BIOS
- Taking everything apart and putting it back together
- Triple checking all motherboard headers and connectors to make sure everything is tightly connected
- Removing my F_Panel connectors to rule out a faulty power switch cable/header (I did this while the PC was running, maybe i should try doing this while its off and starting it with a screwdriver?)
- Plugging the PC into the wall outlet (it is usually plugged into a UPS)
- Loosening my CPU fan screws (I heard that overtightening can cause board flex which might cause shorts)
- Checking for loose screws/standoffs behind the motherboard
- Loosening and re-tightening motherboard screws
- Unplugging and plugging back in the modular power connectors on my PSU (750W)
- Daisy-chaining the new fans on the fan
- Plugging the fans on the fan into separate headers (CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT)
I just wanted to install a new fan bros, wtf did i do to my PC?
