Stuck in lift: Rising emergency outages trigger SA hospital upgrades - News | InDaily, Inside South Australia

SA’s public hospitals have already recorded more than 100 emergencies, from outages to a person being stuck in a lift, triggering a $20 million spend. See if your hospital is getting an upgrade.

. See if your hospital is getting an upgrade.

On Tuesday night, every metropolitan hospital in SA faced a “code white” – an emergency code meaning an emergency department is over 125 per cent of its capacity.

So how does changing lift controls cost 1.5 million at Lyell Mcwein I thought it would at the very max cost 400,000.

'Makeshift' treatment areas and long waits reported at major Adelaide hospital ED

In short:

Patients were facing long waits at the Lyell McEwin Hospital emergency department in early September, according to a report the doctors' union submitted to Safework SA.

The South Australian Salaried Medical Officers' Association says the situation was "distressing" for patients and health workers.

What's next?

The SA government says 20 more beds will open at the hospital on Monday in a bid to ease pressure on the hospital's emergency department.

Maybe they should get those externals rooms they have at the women's and children's hospital that they set up during covid.

'SA exposed': Ministers clash over proposed health changes - News | InDaily, Inside South Australia

The South Australian Health Minister has put Federal Labor on blast today over its proposed changes to private health insurance rebates.

SA Health Minister Blair Boyer warned the changes could cost SA hospitals up to $60 million a year.

If implemented, the Commonwealth’s changes would reduce aged-based private health insurance rebate loading by around four percentage points for people aged 65 to 69 years and by around eight percentage points for those aged 70 years and over.

Boyer said SA was “particularly exposed” to the proposed changes, with Melbourne Institute modelling showing even a modest reduction in private health insurance participation among older people could increase demand on public hospitals.

This would make our ramping crisis way worse as we don't have enough capacity yet to tend to our aging population.

Self-described 'evil' man avoids jail for wire traps on bike path

In short:

Levi Young-Henderson has received suspended sentence for stringing wire across a bike path and injuring several cyclists in 2025.

The court previously heard police found video footage on his mobile phone of the wire accompanied by a devil emoji.

What's next?

Young-Henderson was sentenced to 11 months and five days but entered into a good behaviour bond and will not be put behind bars.

I know our prisons enough funding to have more people in them but our courts as a result should really stop giving nearly every single person a suspended sentence as in this case the offender would likely reoffend.

Declare 'homelessness emergency’ call as Minister admits system is failing - News | InDaily, Inside South Australia

Adelaide City Councillor Phillip Martin wants a homelessness emergency declared over the number of people sleeping rough in the city, saying he “cannot recall an occasion in my life when I have seen so many people sleeping under the cover of shop doorways, in park lands”.

Latest numbers from the Adelaide Zero Project show just in the city of Adelaide there are between 200 and 240 people now sleeping rough every night, camping in the park lands, sleeping in doorways or seeking out shelters

I wonder if they could convert the old adelaide metro info centre on King William Street into a shelter for the homeless. As the place has been abandoned for years and there're always a ton of homeless people that sleep near the building.

Saw this Pro-Trans people banner outside Parliament House today.

https://preview.redd.it/piatbgazzzmh1.png?width=505&format=png&auto=webp&s=264d0dda61efcf05e69915ff8d12b56e149a236f

Was walking past Parliament House this morning and came across this banner.

From what I can make out it seems to be supporting trans people and calling out people who might "interfere" with them.

Honestly good on anyone who is willing to publicly support trans people. At the same time other than the far right, I'm not really sure who they're referring to when they say people are "interfering with trans people". from my perspective, the government seems broadly supportive of trans people although there are still areas where protections could be improved, particularly when it comes to protecting intersex minors from invasive surgical procedures without their consent.

I assume Cory Bernardi might attend, given his history of opposing trans rights and his views on transgender issues. If he does, that would certainly make the context of the banner a bit more interesting.

What surprised me is that I haven’t seen much online advertising or discussion about this. I could obviously be missing something, but I haven’t come across much about the event. Has anyone else seen this or know what the event/protest is about?

Cory Bernardi Has Been Banned From Facebook For Teenage Protest Video

There's a saying Bernardi should know by now "those in glass houses shouldn't thrown stones". Unfortunately him and his fellow far right cookers will never learn.

Australian Federal Police makes call on SA Liberal Party assault threat - News | InDaily, Inside South Australia

A spokesperson for the Australian Federal Police has confirmed with InDaily that a criminal investigation into alleged intimidatory comments made by a man towards a fellow SA Liberal Party member would not go ahead.

In a statement, the spokesperson said the law enforcement organisation had “assessed the matter” but “determined it does not meet the threshold for a criminal offence”.

It follows media reports that a supporter of SA Liberal Federal Senator Alex Antic allegedly made threats of violence to a colleague at a party meeting.

Alex Antic’s long quest for Liberal Party influence reaches crunch time

Probably the best part from the article:

Ashton Hurn, the moderate leader of the state party facing her own One Nation battle, has similarly had to distance herself from Senator Antic's views.

For example, in June, Senator Antic made a self-described "off the cuff" remark that the arrival of bird flu could be an innovative way for pharmaceutical companies to sell products.

"These companies have made some of the best public relations steps you'd ever see — protect yourself, protect grandma, protect the vulnerable and now we've got avian influenza doing the heavy lifting," he said at the time.

Ms Hurn, incidentally, was holding a press conference that week to emphasise the seriousness of bird flu.

He is playing into those far right conspiracy theories and misinformation you could almost say he's a one nation senator wearing blue.

Adelaide Hills Council 'assessing options' after OTR wins court approval for controversial service station

In short:

A court has ruled an OTR service station can be built in the small Adelaide Hills community of Heathfield.

Locals say the proposed service station does not fit with the town's character, while the Adelaide Hills Council's Assessment Panel also found it to be "seriously at variance" with the residential neighbourhood.

The council is assessing its options, while OTR says its focus is on contributing positively to the community.

Edit: Just adding this other article I found which is also relevant as OTR is just mainly focused on more quanity than quality with the amount of petrol stations they want to build https://www.indailysa.com.au/news/business/2026/07/28/pain-at-bowsers-fuels-doubling-of-profits-for-sas-otr-owners
