Troubleshooting slow NAS
Hi all,
I could need some help identifying what's going on with my RS1221+.
Problem Description:
The NAS is accessible via SMB and I can connect via SSL and web interface.
However, copy/move and file IO operations in general start fast (112MB/s, maxing out my 1GB connection), but after a few minutes, the copy speeds drop down dramatically, sometimes stopping completely.
During this time, I can't access the web interface either. It simply times out.
Storage pool not degraded, simply extremely slow. No obvious log entries in Log Center.
Configuration:
RS1221+ with 6 bays filled, 2 empty.
Drives:
- 5 x WD142KFGX (14GB WD Red Pro)
- 1 x WD6005FFBX (6GB WD Red Pro)
Volume:
- Single Storage Pool in SHR, 1 drive fault tolerance.
- 1 Volume, total capacity: 54.1TB, 20.8TB free
Packages installed:
- SMB Service
- Python2
- QuickConnect
- SAN Manager
- Secure SignIn Service
- Storage Manager
- Universal Search
Troubleshooting steps performed:
- Rebooted
- Updated DSM to 7.3.2-86009 Update 3
- Checked SMART status, showing healthy for all drives
- Enable FAST Repair -> Yes
- Started Data Scrubbing
- Expected scrubbing speeds and normal behavior until reaching ca.49% progress. Estimated scrubbing completion date then gradually increased up to a few hundred days! Once the system reaches this state, it's almsot inaccessible. Web interface needs multiple attempts to sign-in and takes minutes (!) to load.
- Cancelled scrubbing, rebooted the system and tried scrubbing again. Same result!
- Checked Log Center, no errors logged.
Any ideas? I'm suspecting the SHR volume with 5 x 14TB drives and a single 6GB drive might be causing it. New drive is ordered, but due to delivery shortages might take weeks until it arrives. Would appreciate any tips where to check to identify the actual root cause. Thanks!
