Rowcount column in fact table

Hello
I am data engineer, used to work in powerbi but those days are gone, maybe im not up to date. Last week I got an request from bi department to put rowcount in all fact tables, so each row would have value of 1. It supposedly is going to help the development. I immediately refused doing this ticket, saying that countrows will do the same job(?) and it doesnt create physical column, doesnt make mess in the table and increases model size, moreover:

a) can be interpreted inaccordingly by users
b) if the „order” has multiple lines, they may count lines, not orders, using that column

Just in advance: they’re not able to add this column theirselves in power query, because the connection is on fabric shortcut

Were I right or its totally common in analytics in 2026 to do that? Should I reopen this ticket or keep my word? What do you think?
