I'm having difficulties with my MOH. We've known each other since 7, been best friends since about 11. We're complete opposites in every way. I dress quite femininely, she's always been a tomboy and "dressed like a boy" (her words) in cargo shorts, sneakers, cropped hair, etc. She doesn't mind wearing dresses for occasions, she views it kind of like playing dress-up.
I'm letting my bridesmaids pick their own dresses as long as they're either of two colors. So my MOH is going with green -- anything in the realm of sage to olive (typical "garden party" greens, I just didn't want emerald basically). She's been looking on Amazon, and found one of those infinity dresses that you can wear in lots of different ways, and she really latched onto the concept. She tried it on in sage and thought it was great and that "pictures didn't do it justice." When we facetimed, I...did not think it was as wonderful as she did. The color read as more minty/blue toned, even in different lightings. My main problem with it though is that it's this kind of stretch polyester fabric that looks meh and drapes poorly.
I sent her 2 other options to try on that were chiffon and satin. The chiffon one was also in the infinity style that she liked. She complained that the one she had picked out was $29 whereas my picks were $60-$70 (side note, she went and told our other friend, also a bridesmaid, that she "found this great option, only $29 and really great quality, and can be worn lots of ways" 🥲). I want to emphasize that I'm not inherently bothered because of the difference in price point. One of my bridesmaids is wearing a thrifted dress. I don't care if MOH gets her dress off the side of the road in a garage sale. It's just that the quality of this $29 dress is mid; I used to have a dress of similar fabric and you could always see the polyester sheen in photos. As for finances, she's currently gearing up to build what will eventually be a $4k custom PC. I am paying accommodations for all my bridesmaids, and I'm not requiring hair and makeup.
She wants to go with the $29 polyester dress because it's the easiest option/path of least resistance so to speak. She doesn't have to shop (I have never known her to go to do so) or look or worry about fit. She purchased an M/L which was too long for her (she's around 5"5-6). I told her she could easily get it tailored affordably, and she said that "the material is so stretchy, I'm just going to get S or even XS so it'll be the right length." So it boils down to her doing whatever she can so that she doesn't have to do anything lol.
I've kind of avoided it by saying stuff like "well let's wait to see the other ones, you never know!" But what should I do when she inevitably doubles down on this polyester dress? Appreciate you all! :D
